Located only 4 minutes from the snowmobile trails in WI (& just a few more minutes to the MI trail system), Birch Haven soothes the soul while being completely immersed in nature’s beauty. Our cabin in the woods welcomes you with the feel of an old log cabin. The original woodwork accomplishes the aesthetic to the fullest. Most lamps & tables are borderline antiques with rustic charm. With THE BEST view of Crystal Lake from our back deck & no public access, ice fishermen enjoy no competition. The space Welcome to Birch Haven. Prepare to be transported back to 1955, when Uncle Harry (champion marksman and woodworker) built this home with his own two hands…with a little help from his friends. Our family has long debated listing our secret getaway spot on Airbnb. Since the company is in good standing after years on end (and now that I’ve also been a guest in many Airbnb properties around the country), we feel it is finally safe to open our doors to those trustworthy few that will treat it with the care and respect it deserves. Birch Haven is filled with history and takes you back to a much simpler time. Named for the many birch trees on the property (and especially the ones that surround the back deck facing Crystal Lake), Birch Haven soothes the soul while being completely immersed in nature’s beauty. As the pictures will show you, the vast majority of our cabin in the woods has remained untouched in regard to décor. Uncle Harry’s pride and joy, Oscar the 26 inch walleye, still proudly hangs over the wood burning fireplace after being caught on November 2nd, 1958, just off of our dock. While there have been a few updates and improvements made over the years to the kitchen and basement, we have tried very hard to keep the original feel intact. The exterior looks to be a regular house at first glance, but once you step inside, you will be immersed in the feel of an old log cabin. There is no wallpaper on the entire main floor, as we let the original woodwork accomplish the aesthetic to the fullest. Most lamps and tables are borderline antiques, though the comfy couches and recliners have been replaced as needed throughout the years. Also, we have (arguably) THE BEST view of Crystal Lake from our back deck. There is also a huge sliding glass door leading from the kitchen to the deck that takes up the entire wall space, so the view is still intact during the winter season or any inclement weather that would keep you indoors for the day. As for the updates made over the years, the kitchen has received new cupboards and countertops. We also added a spiral staircase connecting the main floor to the partially finished basement. We've converted one of the original bedrooms on the main floor to a second bathroom with a newer shower, along with a washer and dryer. There has also been a recent addition of artwork depicting the surrounding area's nature and landscapes. Most of these canvases (and metal prints) are pictures of Crystal Lake and/or areas within a few miles from the cabin. We have just recently added Starlink wireless internet with outstanding speed and connectivity, much to the chagrin of our 90 year old matriarch! There is also YoutubeTV available with Amazon Firesticks in the living room and master bedroom. For much of my childhood, we never even had a telephone installed here, let alone a television. It was truly a place to spend time with the family playing Euchre, Scrabble and Cribbage, or going swimming, tubing, fishing, golfing, kayaking, snowmobiling, etc. Birch Haven has remained a place to gather with friends and family and escape the world at large, but we’ve also added today’s must-haves on the tech side of life to have the option of staying connected while “away”. Guest access The main floor is intended for use for guests. Though the basement is accessible by the spiral staircase, it gets cold during the winter and is mainly intended as a spill over area for the kids in our family during our annual family reunion/vacation in the summertime.
