Our local village, Vimieiro (5 minutes’ drive) has an excellent convenience store (Mercearia do Vimieiro open from 9 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm), pharmacy (Tranquilidade), petrol station & coffee Bar Bombas do Vimieiro open from 6 am to 10 pm) etc. to cover most of your needs. Évora has an incredible wet fish markets and meat and vegetable market and very large supermarkets apart from the huge selection of fantastic restaurants (25min) Estremoz (25min) has a few large supermarkets, flea market and many restaurants which it’s becoming increasingly famous for. Activities: - From your base at Monte da Estalagem, you can find so many activities ; Restaurants are amazing in this region as we are in the Alentejo wine route and it’s becoming rapidly a “foodies paradise” particularly Estremoz.(25 minutes by car) Saturdays is the Estremoz market Day - It is such great fun surrounded by restaurants and coffee shops food antiques and it is largest market in Alentejo providing you with the most unbelievable diverse selection of fresh produce to bring back to the house. - You can visit Évora (25 minutes) again amazing diverse restaurants and it is classified as a Unesco World Heritage Site and will be the Capital of European Culture in 2027. It is exciting as It has very modern influences to many ancient monuments to explore like the Roman Temple or even churches and cathedrals. Events such as ballooning, gokarting, walking, megaliths and many many things to do. Only 10 minutes away from the house you have: - Evoramonte where there is a beautiful small castle and gift shops for you to explore giving an amazing vista. - In Arraiolos (20 minutes) you can visit yet another castle, as well as museums and visit the tapestry shops which it’s famous for and also try their traditional pastries. - You can take advantage of our location being on the wine route path through Alentejo and visit the Vineyards like local Herdade das Servas, Adega do Monte Branco and many others, and participate in the many wine tasting tours on offer. All these activities are within about 30 minutes’ drive. It is great to combine your stay with so much activity – but not to forget the special time for yourself and your family, right here and enjoying the moments of being at the property itself wether it is lounging by the pool or reading a great book. If you are lucky you will experience our seasonal based crane flying overhead. Eating out: - Vimieiro (6 minutes away)has a few local restaurants, Tremelga which is great for large parties inside and outside dining. - Nearby, in Estremoz you can find fabulous Gadanha Mercearia, a Mitchelin recommended restaurant which offers regional food with an exceptional modern twist and has a spectacular wine cellar. Also Alacrim , is a superb restaurant with an updated version of local dishes and a large collection of wines. Howard's Folly is amazing an old wine cellar/bar/restaurant with a modern and sophisticated décor, that serves petiscos (the Portuguese version of tapas).potentially catering to larger table sizes as they have oodles of room. -In Évora there are an enormous range of options for all tastes, from amazing hamburger specialists to Sushi !
