Unload your gear into the attached 2-car garage with Level 2 EV charger (Grizzl-E), hang everything on the 24-slot boot and glove dryer, and you're ready to go again tomorrow. No hauling bags through the cold — just walk in from the garage. Into the wilderness Step off the back deck onto a private 0.2-mile nature trail into the San Juan National Forest, leading to Vista Point — a secluded overlook with panoramic views of Electra Lake and the Animas Glacier Valley. In winter it's a magical snowshoe. In summer, a five-minute hike to a view most people never find. After a big day Sink into the hot tub on the south-facing patio. In winter, it catches warm afternoon sun. At night, the stars at this altitude are unforgettable. For the Kids The upstairs loft is a dedicated kids' zone with a Twin XL bunk bed, an additional Twin XL, and a full-size sleeper sofa. A foosball table downstairs and cornhole outside keep everyone entertained on downtime days. A pack-n-play and high chair are on-hand, plus kid-friendly dishes and utensils so you don't have to pack your own. And every morning and afternoon, the kids will love hearing the whistle of the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad echoing through Cascade Canyon in the distance. Stay Connected — or Don't Starlink high-speed internet keeps remote workers productive. EV Charger Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV charger in the garage main stall (on a 240V/50A NEMA 14-50 outlet). Important — winter driving 4WD/AWD with snowflake-rated tires or chains is required November through March. The home is 2 miles along a well-maintained (plowed) gravel road off Hwy 550. The neighborhood road stays snow covered and icy all winter and a few sections have a moderate incline. Rental vehicles with AWD snow tires are available via Turo; chains available locally at purgatorychains. Central heat keeps the house warm. Two mini-split air conditioning units, one in the main floor living area and the other in the loft common area—to help take the edge off of the rare extra-warm summer day. All bedrooms have a ceiling fan and additional fans are provided as well—just in case. Nighttime lows in the summer average in the 40's, and are sometimes in the 50's—perfect weather for opening bedroom windows at night! Main living area is on the 2nd floor. One flight of stairs is required to get to the front door. Attached garage is on the 1st floor which includes one bedroom, laundry room, a half bath and a living space with couch and TV. Main floor includes 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, living room, kitchen, dining area and entry/mud room. The third floor includes a loft common area, 1 bedroom and 1 full bathroom. Guest access Guest has access to entire home including two garage parking spaces. Owners' utility closets are locked. Other things to note 4WD/AWD with snowflake rated tires or chains is required November through late March, no exceptions. Local chains available from purgatorychains. Our home is 2 mi on a gravel road from Highway 550. The gravel roads are well maintained and plowed in winter, but will be snow/ice packed. A few sections of the road are at a moderate ~12% incline and can get icy and unequipped vehicles will get stuck—creating a safety hazard for the neighborhood. Please see map. If you need to rent a vehicle with AWD and snowflake rated tires please try Turo. E-signed rental agreement required within 3 days of booking. Host will email link to agreement day of booking. Security deposit hold of $500 required. Deposit to be processed by host on guest's credit card. *Pets allowed (up to 2 dogs max, $100 pet fee each)* Please note there is a security camera outside on the front of the home to monitor the driveway, and there is a Ring doorbell camera by the front door. No other cameras are present on the property. ***FIRE DANGER, NO SMOKING. No open flames (except the gas grill), or campfires anywhere on the property or forest. Wildfires are a very real threat in the region. Thank you so much for your understanding. House is located in bear country. Please do not leave food in your vehicles or anywhere outside. It is best not to leave coolers on the deck. Keep your vehicles locked if you are parked outside. Please note that you will be staying at a high altitude environment, elevation is ~9000 ft.
