Description

An old two-bedroom loft in the heart of Annecy Old Town - with a balcony over the river Thiou. The perfect escape for adventurous couples & families. The medieval street below is bustling with restaurants and street markets; up on the fourth-floor the loft is calm and peaceful. The shaded balcony has views over the rooftops, and the turquoise river directly below. Built-in the 14th century it is full of creaky floorboards and character, as well as modern comforts, including fibre internet. The space The main room is a light and bright open-plan lounge, dining area, and kitchen. It has large windows looking onto the balcony and river below. There is a small toilet, and shower room on this level - as well as the balcony, where you can sit to have dinner, or just relax in the hammock. The bedrooms are two lofts, accessed by steep ladders, above the main room. The master bedroom has a queen-sized hybrid Emma mattress and a window looking onto the Annecy castle. The second twin bedroom features bunk beds with two single mattresses - great fun for kids, with windows onto the river Thiou and the roof tops of the old town. The stairs to access the apartment are old and steep, and both bedrooms are accessed by “ladders”. While many people love these, if you are concerned about easy access, or being able to easily get to the toilet during the night, please do have a look at the photos before booking to make sure you are happy! Guest access You will have access to the whole apartment, which is normally our home, so is equipped with lots of cooking utensils - even sharp kitchen knives! The apartment's central location is just 500m from the bus and train station. There are several parking lots a short walk away from the apartment. During the summer, there is a charge for this parking. Geneva Airport is 40 minutes drive away, and there are regular busses and trains to the airport too. During summer, there is a free bus that runs around the lake, making it possible to visit the area without a car. The apartment is in the the historic old town of Annecy, and situated on Rue Sainte Claire next to the River Thiou. This street is full of restaurants serving traditional fondues and raclettes, more modern French cuisine, and some delicious ice cream. Rue Sainte Claire has a famous street market on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays - where the street fills with local food producers from the area. Rue Sainte Claire is a pedestrian street only accessible before 11am by car. Please note that the apartment is located in a building which is more than 800 years old. Accessing the apartment requires climbing 4 flights of steep stone spiral stairs, and there is no elevator. If you have lots of luggage, are unsteady on your feet, or do not have a good level of fitness - please check the photos and make sure you are happy with accessing the apartment. Other things to note Annecy is the perfect hub to explore the French Alps. If you are adventurous, some of the best trail running, hiking, swimming, cycling, mountain biking and paragliding are available just a short walk or bus ride away from the apartment. There is a yoga mat in the apartment if you need to stretch and relax after enjoying everything around Annecy. Annecy is also a cultural center, with the Bon Lieu cultural center a short walk away. Annecy also hosts numerous events, including the Animation Festival (Festival international du film d'animation d'Annecy) and the Fête du lac d'Annecy. The building was built in the 13th century - meaning it has plenty of charm, character, quirks, and squeaky floorboards. Access to the apartment is by 4 stories of stone spiral staircase, so bear this in mind when packing your luggage. There are 63 steep steps and no elevator! The apartment is north-facing and has thick walls, so stays cool, and does not get too hot during the day. During very hot weather, we have lots of fans available, and plenty of windows. We have chosen to not have air conditioning installed, out of respect to the environment, as it has not been needed before in this apartments 800 year history! There are many restaurants located in the street below, and occasionally, depending on the wind direction and what is being cooked, smells from the restaurants can arrive in the apartment, which some people love, and others do not. Being a very old building, there is also a very small chance of seeing mice. The apartment is fitted with electronic deterrents, and I regularly perform pest control checks to make the chance of seeing a mouse as small as possible.
