The cottage is for families and friends who are looking to escape the city and enjoy some quality time together. This cottage is not suitable for parties. There is a selection of board games and cards as well. There is a dining table ready for dinner parties, that will comfortably accommodate 6-8 guests. The screened-in porch offers dining too, as well as an additional place to lounge while avoiding the bugs. BBQ We provide you with two propane tanks that should last your entire stay with some to spare, if you run out and require more, we ask that you do this at your own expense. FIRE PITS There is a fire pit down on the dock at the lake. This is the ONLY place where you may have a fire. Please be cautious and put out the fire before going to bed, with water. There is firewood at the car-park. We will inform you if there is an active fire ban - if there is, there are NO fires permitted at all. Additionally there is a gas fire-pit located outside the largest bedroom. WOOD STOVE (SEASONAL) There is a wood stove in the primary bedroom that requires you to read a HOW TO guide, as well as review a wikihow. Using a wood stove requires attention to detail and there is a learning curve. The stove is supplemental heat on top of our baseboard heaters. Please let me know if you have questions about how to use it. Using this improperly may result in a fire. IN CASE OF A WINTER POWER OUTAGE this is your primary heat source. THE LAKE The lake is fresh and so clean. It’s a sand bottom lake so not to worry if you’re not fond of seaweed (like me). It’s about 6 ft off the dock. There is a canoe, 2 stand up paddleboards, and 2 kayaks, lifejackets and floaties available to use. Do not swim at night please. The lake is named Johnston lake, and it's one of the biggest lakes in the area. Other things to note CELL PHONE RECEPTION You should have good cell phone reception via the Telus or Bell network. PLEASE ENSURE that your carrier works at this location in case of an emergency - I do not have a landline and so it is in your best interest that ONE person's phone has reception here. INTERNET We have highspeed fibre internet - great for Netflix and working remotely. STAIRS There are a few sets of stairs both outside and inside the cottage. Negotiating stairs must not be an issue for you. HEATING (SEASONAL) There is baseboard heating in the cottage which keeps everything toasty warm in the fall season. As well as two fireplaces (gas and wood). IN CASE OF A WINTER POWER OUTAGE the fireplaces are your primary heat source. TOILETS We are on septic at the cottage. We have VERY strict policies on what can and cannot go down the toilet. Please be mindful of this when booking. Our guidelines are in our cottage manual. IN CASE OF A POWER OUTAGE, I provide back up water to flush the toilets. Guest access You'll be able to access the entire space. (Guest bunkie is closed from Nov - May) Other things to note Weather: We do not and cannot guarantee nice weather for your booking....and there will be no refunds if it is poor weather. Rural wifi: We have highspeed fibre wifi but outages can happen, please set your expectations accordingly. Power outages: Rural power outages are common. I will ONLY provide refunds for the time in which the power was out (within reason). I have LOTS of safety guards in place for outages. Please ENSURE you're comfortable with this potential experience as it could affect your stay. Included: Back up water, BBQ, fireplaces, flashlights, power outage nightlights, candles, batteries, propane, Jackery 1000 power bank for small appliances, phone charger power bank). Fire Bans: In summer and fall there, when there is a lack of rain it is common for the municipality to enforce a total fire ban. This will be communicated to you before or even sometimes during your stay. If a total fire ban is in effect you cannot have a fire of any kind. Failure to follow this rule will result in serious fines or neighbors calling 9-1-1. Wildlife: It is not uncommon to see the following: skunks, raccoons, snakes, spiders, a variety of bugs, frogs, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, deer, porcupines, bears. Please do not harm or remove any wildlife. Busy lake days: The lake life can be slow and chill but the lake can also be busy. Please expect both. We have neighbours on both sides. Some with kids, some with dogs. Construction noises: While we are in nature, yes, cottages require some upkeep so you may hear hammering, chainsaws etc while at the lake. Poor Cell Service: The cottage is in the woods, and there is a Bell tower nearby but cell/ data service is poor among all providers other than Bell and Telus. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR PROVIDER WORKS HERE IN CASE OF A POWER OUTAGE AND LOSS OF WIFI. Repairs: There may be instances where something at the cottage is not working. The cottage is old and getting repairs during the busy season is difficult. I will always warn you in advance of what to expect. Please always let me know if something isn't working the way you'd hoped when you arrive so I can remedy this. Mice: Mice are a part of country living. There may be the odd instance where you see one in the cottage. I do my very best to stop this, but it can still happen. Registration Details Quebec - Registration number 313051, expires: 2026-05-08
