Kat's Kabin (a birding paradise) is a countryside stay nestled in the hill country near Utopia, Texas between Garner State Park and Lost Maples State Natural Area. You are invited to hike and explore over 500 acres of our 1000 acre Four Sisters Ranch and enjoy the great outdoors away from civilization, traffic and city lights. The Frio and Sabinal Rivers are but a short distance away. The seclusion and privacy make for the perfect romantic getaway or bring the kids to enjoy the ranch The space Beautiful, secluded ranch cabin on 1000 private acres of the Four Sisters Ranch. Located in the most scenic part of the Texas Hill Country. Fully furnished one room cabin with two queen beds (sleeps 4), one bathroom and a fully furnished kitchen. We have two porches, shaded BBQ area, patio, wildlife feeders and a fire pit. You can enjoy the sounds of nature, local wildlife and a beautiful night sky. You will see a variety of wildlife from the porch including deer, turkey, wild hogs and hummingbirds. Guests who came in April, 2023 said we should advertise as a "birders paradise" as they saw some many different species of birds from our back porch. The Texas hill country is a wonderful year around birding & wildlife viewing destination! We are in one of the best areas of Texas to see the Golden Cheeked Warbler, Black Capped Vireo, Vermilion Flycatcher and more! We have horse shoe pitching, roping dummy, cards and other games to play as well as internet and a smart TV. Located 90 mi NW of San Antonio and 7 mi from Utopia. The cabin is 10 miles from Vanderpool, TX home to Lost Maples State Park and Lost Maples Winery. Garner State park, the Frio River and Concan are about 30 minutes away. Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Medina, Concan, Boerne, Bandera and Comfort are all close by and great for shopping. Night life is available in Bandera. Our curvy, scenic roads boast fantastic hill country views. Local activities: Golf in Utopia (the setting for the movie 7 Days in Utopia). Float the Frio River. Hike at Garner Park. Go birding at Lost Maple Park. Gaze at the stars. Photograph the picturesque hill country views. BBQ on the patio. Make a reservation at the fabulous Laurel Tree (open on Saturdays for lunch and dinner). Our coffee shop, Postal Brews, has music most Friday nights. Dine at Mac N Ernies in Tarpley, open on weekends. Guest Access: Guest must arrive by car or motocycle. There is parking next to the cabin. Hiking and biking are allowed on the ranch. Interaction with Guests Guests will have the cabin to themselves. Hosts live on the ranch and are just a short distance away, should help be needed. The Neighborhood Out in the middle of nowhere. Very private and quiet. No nearby neighbors or city lights. Surrounded by nature in a gorgeous hill country setting. Getting Around No public transportation is available. The nearest airport is in San Antonio (~1.5 hr drive). Austin is an ~ 3 hour drive. Other Things to Note Since our cabin is one big room, we aren’t suitable for young children who need a separate room to nap. Usually we require a two night minimum. For major holidays (that involve a Monday off) a three night minimum applies. Occasionally, when we have one night free between reservations, we will rent that night for guests who might like to come for a quick stay. Utopia is a very small community with a general store, bank, gas station, cafes, coffee shop and a few gift shops. Limited groceries are available at the general store. The nearest large grocery store and hospital is 45 miles (Hondo, Kerrville or Uvalde). Cell phone service is very limited, only AT&T works well in this area. If you intend to visit one of the State parks in the area, be sure to make a reservation online 30 days before the date you wish to visit. If you want to make a reservation for the Laurel Tree Guest Table, be sure you make the reservation as soon as possible as they are only open for lunch and dinner on Saturdays. Guest access The cabin will be open with key inside. Park on the road, not on the grass.
