Casemate Zus (cellar)

At the "Arsenaal", a quiet idyllic square within the Woudrichem fortress, there are two gunpowder cellars. Kazemat Zus, a few steps away from Brasserie Zus (Restaurant), is an independent apartment. The gunpowder cellars were built in the nineteenth century and were part of the new Dutch water line. These earth-covered casemates were resistant to the gunpowder-filled bombs of the time. The casemates (monument status) are now in use as Brasserie Zus and Kazemat Zus. Above Brasserie Zus is the Nooit Gedagt grain mill. Kazemat Zus, a few steps away from Brasserie Zus, is an independent apartment. A unique space with complete privacy. It is a floor heated apartment with shower, toilet and kitchenette. Decorated with style. On the kitchen unit you will find a Nespresso coffee machine with coffee capsules, and a kettle with various teas. For your apartment, you have your own private terrace with table, chairs and parasol. There are two bicycles on the terrace that you can use freely. Within the unique fortress of Woudrichem, you can go hiking. With the help of a hiking map, you will discover the doctor Tinus route, and with the ferry you can make trips to Gorinchem, Loevestein Castle and Fort Vuren. Brasserie Zus is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. You can then have breakfast and lunch at a reduced price. On Mondays and Tuesdays, you can shop at the shopping center, which is a five-minute bike ride away. Due to the thick walls and the meters of earth above you, it is especially quiet at night.
