Description
A unique opportunity for a perfect glamping experience in a quirky converted railway carriage at the disused Cromdale Station, now adjacent to a popular walking route (The Speyside Way) on the old railway line. Situated in the Cairngorm National Park, it is the perfect place to get away from it all, relax and explore this fascinating and beautiful area. The camping coach is a former railway carriage built in 1916 and brought to Cromdale and renovated in 2001. It has two bedrooms, a recently refurbished shower room and a former 'Guard's Van' which is now the living area and has cooking facilities (hob, combi microwave, small portable grill and toaster) but please note no oven. There is a also a fridge with freezer compartment, kettle, cafetiere, sink, seats, table, TV with DVD player and electric/ gas heaters. It is also equipped with books, games and a selection of DVDs. There is a contained garden exclusively for guests' use which includes garden play equipment, rowing machine, picnic table and a table for tray barbecues. We also provide a small bucket bbq. The garden behind the carriage is for the camping coach as is the seating area on the platform near to the carriage. You can park under car port near to camping coach. Please respect the privacy of those staying in the station house. The garden behind the station is for the use of residents staying at the house. We live around 20 minutes away and are available by phone or email. The Cromdale Station carriage, is set in a lovely quiet and peaceful countryside location on the edge of the village of Cromdale, very close to the river Spey, within the beautiful Cairngorm National Park. It is only a few miles from Grantown for the nearest amenities such as shops, cafes, restaurants, leisure centre (with swimming pool) etc. There is plenty to do in the area including outdoor activities at local outdoor centres, golf, fishing, walking, cycling, skiing, driving around the beautiful countryside visiting lochs, castles, distilleries (there is a gin distillery open to visitors in the village) etc. There are popular activities for children in the area such as Landmark Adventure Park and the Highland Wildlife Park. It is also only about a 40-50 minute drive to the coast where you can visit the beach at Nairn, Findhorn or maybe go and watch dolphins at Spey Bay. It is also a similar distance to Inverness which is the nearest (and only!) city in the Highlands. Our guests can also take advantage of discounts with local businesses: Cairngorm activities (for a wide range of outdoor pursuits) near Grantown and Cairngorm Beauty Therapy in Aviemore. Contact us after booking if you're interested and we can provide you with the relevant discount codes so you can book in advance. You can explore the area easily by car (take care on smaller roads in wintry conditions) and it is also a great location for walking and cycling. You can also travel by bus (about 10 minutes to Grantown). There are also taxis available from Grantown if you wanted to go out for drinks in the evening. The nearest train station is at Aviemore and you can get a bus to Grantown from there. Please contact us if you require any information or assistance regarding transport. The camping coach is over 100 years old. Although greatly cared for, it requires a high degree of maintenance and shows its age in some places. Most of our guests enjoy the quirkiness and charm of the place and don't mind a few signs of wear and tear. However, if you prefer to stay somewhere modern without such imperfections, this accommodation may not be for you. Please also check the floor plan uploaded and note there is no corridor between the two carriages. A word about dogs: you are welcome to bring your dog, but please no more than one because there is not really space for multiple dogs. There is not a lot of floor space available so it may also not be suitable for a large dog. Also for hygiene reasons and in consideration of future guests, please keep out of the bedrooms and off the furnishings and do not leave in the carriage alone. Please note, there may be other guests staying in the station house during your stay so please be mindful of their privacy. The house and carriage have separate gardens and parking spaces so there is ample space. Parties on the property are not allowed. Please ask if you intend to invite visitors. Details of any visitors are required. Please note, the carriage is not suitable for wheelchair users. There is also not enough room for a cot in the double room.
