Description
Featuring fine Asian cuisine, stunning natural settings and vintage rooms, our villas are designed for foodies, naturalists, and all those prefer the road less traveled. Built adjacent to highly acclaimed farm to table restaurant, Guerrera, guests are steps from some of the freshest and most creative cuisine in Asia. The space Set in a lush and serene rice paddy steps from the beach, Guerrera also provides the island’s best views of both White Island and volcanic mount Hibok-Hibok. Breath-taking views surround you in this small, nostalgic villa on the black sand beach of Camiguin. Set inside a working rice paddy and a vegetable garden, you also have unbroken views of our paddies from your bed, your wrap around deck and because life is short, your bathtub for 2. The sun rises right in front of you and you can have breakfast watching Guerrero the water buffalo, our goats, ducks, chickens , horses, turkeys and many other animals as they begin their day. From there, you can enjoy all Camiguin has to offer, from hikes , waterfalls, diving, and trips to white island, just 5 minutes away from your villa. We currently have 2 villas and you will either be able to see White Island or the volcano right out of your window. Few other properties in the Philippines offer anything quite like it and that's why it's priced the way it is. As regular travelers ourselves, we know there are times to save and also times to really live and savor life's rare opportunities -- and this is one of them. What's it similar to? If you mixed Bali (seminyak and ubud) and Fiji and added a little bit of Santorini and finally, Hoi an, to our unbeatable Filipino-style hospitality ...and then provided a world-class farm to table Asian restaurant just 10 meters away where a le cordon bleu trained chef is both cooking for you and serves as your gracious host...then you'd be pretty close. Rice paddy update: unlike most places in the aforementioned Ubud, our rice paddies are not just kept for cosmetic purposes as all the rice we grow is used in our restaurant. We do not artificially "keep it green" for the cameras and as such we it goes through natural cycles where it changes color and shape and goes through periods of cleaning and resting in between plantings. There is no way to set a schedule around these times, as it depends on rain, irrigation, sun, wind and even the birds! But no matter when you choose to visit us, we trust it will be a unique natural experience. Some other reasons to consider our space: Cuisine: Look, let's not sugarcoat it. If you're from abroad and are traveling in the Philippines and expect to find the wondrous and adventurous food you have enjoyed in other Asian countries, there is a good chance you will be sorely disappointed. Vegetarians can expect even more challenges. Nobody tells it to you this straight in the guidebooks and websites but you will figure it out pretty quickly and you will spend a lot more time than you expected looking for even half-way decent places to eat. You will find most (but certainly not all) Filipino food to be an acquired taste and its localized versions of western foods, a bizarre and painful surprise with its over-reliance on processed, inexpensive, and low quality ingredients. When you find an establishment that makes a decent plate of pasta or something else familiar, you rejoice and will probably over-rate it, simply because its edible. Enter Guerrera, where we create our own dishes as well as feature more familiar dishes from Thailand, Vietnam, India, Indonesia and Malaysia, grow most of the ingredients right on the premises and make it all by hand... and now you've got a go-to place that no matter where you are from, you are getting food as good, as fresh, and as interesting, if not more-so than what you have @ home, served in a beautiful natural setting that is in a league of its own , at prices that are not going to require you to wash dishes after the meal. If you are like most of our guests who find us, you will be eating at least 75% of your meals at Guerrera, and that is the main reason we built these accommodations in the first place. People kept asking us to put them up just so they wouldn't have to ride over from wherever they were staying. Please note: we also offer paid breakfast service to overnight guests but we ask that the order is placed the night before as our staff is normally busy preparing to open the restaurant by mid-morning. Rooms: We take great pride in the distinctive character of our villas, which are neither modern, native, nor commercial. Designed to evoke an earlier, slower time , they feature Spanish tiles, Vietnamese lanterns, colonial shutters, bamboo ceilings and hand-tailored native hardwood. Unique details abound as virtually everything was custom built on the premises, by hand. Modern amenities include WiFi, air-conditioning and hot water for both shower and outdoor tub, mini-refrigerator, and free water and coffee. TV’s have been replaced by a full bookshelf for your refreshment. Our WiFi signal is not the world's strongest in all places but for Camiguin, it 's pretty solid. Guests can get signal on the deck and in the restaurant, but it is slower inside our farthest villa. Beds: we believe the single most important amenity when you vacation in anyone's home or hotel is the sleeping quality the host provides. That's why we offer top of the line memory foam mattresses in all our villas and very good linens. They sit on top of a custom build hard wood bed frame so whatever you do with your day, you can be sure to get a great night's sleep when you come back to Guerrera. Guest access Guests have their own private villa and can also walk 5 seconds to a secluded black sand beach ( bring your reef shoes), stroll the gardens, take cooking classes with us, or simply be our guest as diners at Guerrera restaurant. Other things to note Back up generator: Camiguin experiences brown outs ( power outages) nearly every week, sometimes for hours at a time. Our property is one of the few on the island that has a generator to supply electricity, to all appliances, during these periods. It seems like a small thing to consider until you have spent a night without a fan or Air con in hot steamy conditions. Booking with 4 digit post codes: Airbnb requires a 5 digit postal code as part of their booking process. If you live in an area like the Philippines where we use 4 digits, put a ZERO in front when you book online. Connectivity: Wi-fi is provided but signal can vary depending on the number of connections we have. Storage/Check-in: We can store items for you in our house for safe keeping or if you want more space in your villa. This is especially handy if you arrive on the early flight and have to wait until the "official" 2pm check-in time. You can also lounge around the house but most people opt to take a trip to white island or around Camiguin while their room is being readied. Proximity: the villas are a 5 minute walk from Rocky Village in Yumbing, and a couple of shops/restaurants/resorts are there as is the embarkation point to White Island. It's very convenient for you as you don't have to ride to get the little things you need. You are about a 10 minute motor ride from the airport in Mambajao. Other services: This is a full service property and you are provided with linens, towels, and toiletries. Rooms are cleaned every 2 days and we offer paid services like laundry and massage. You can store cold items with us as our commercial refs are just steps away from your villas. We also rent motorbikes, automatic transmission cars, kayaks and Stand up paddle boards.
