The space Malama's Maisonette is named after the mother of the owner and is located in one of the historical districts of Heraklion city called Lakkos Colorful murals, narrow streets, low houses with yards compose an colorful synthesis of memories, transferring you years back in time. Giorgos, the owner of the maisonette single handedly restored the house from ruins to a charming sanctuary! The restoration took place a few years ago. Every structural element was treated with respect for the traditional methods the old craftsmen used. Just a breath away from the famous tomb of Nikos kazantzakis, one of the most famous Greek witters. The tomb is located on the top of the old Venetian walls that surround and used to protect the city. This is also a great spot to enjoy the views of the city and the sunset. The maisonette is just a stone throw away from most of the monuments of the town. For example, The Basilica of Saint Mark is located at about 10 minutes by foot, opposite to the Lions Fountain and just a few meters away from Loggia (Heraklion Municipalitiy) This three-aisled timber-roofed basilica, was constructed to fulfill the religious needs of the ducat and the Venetian authorities. In this building, the Venetian nobles where buried in sarcophagus and official ceremonies took place. One of the "must visit" monuments of the city is the Morozini fountain. This imposing 1600s Venetian fountain with 4 water-gushing lions is located in a bustling, cafeterias & shops-lined square. Locals refer to it as the Lion’s Fountain (in Greek Liontaria), while the monument’s official name is Fontana Morosini, located at the (now called) Eleftheriou Venizelou Square. This central part of a pedestrianised spot in Heraklion is setting an all day rendez-vous point in the city. Even closer, there is the Cathedral of Saint Minas, the patron of the city. According to tradition, the Easter of 1826, when Christians were in the church attending the mass, the Ottomans attacked them wanting to kill them. Suddenly, the Ottomans saw before them a young, brave horseman who waved a sword. They were scared and backed away. The Christians believed that the horseman was Saint Minas who was there to protect them and their city. Registration Details 00001143878
