Balinese tradition is part of our culture. The name “Ananda” derives from the Sanskrit word for “pure bliss”. Every day, you will see the “offerings lady” leaving arrangements of bamboo, petals and incense for the gods and spirits. From across the river comes the soft sound of ceremonial song and music from the nearby village of Sibang Gede. Living here is a spiritual, as well as a thoroughly comfortable, experience. Crafted entirely from black and blonde bamboo, Ananda House comprises three separate, spectacular buildings entered through a private, luxuriant, tropical garden. Hidden away behind solid teak doors is a haven of luxury. Enter and you are in a magical and mysterious world. Wander past statuary, a waterfall, and along a private pathway, and you come to the spectacular, four-storey, pagoda-like MASTER PAVILION. Within it is The Orchid Suite, with its air-conditioned super king-size bed, reading terrace, and indoor/outdoor bathroom with magnificent stone bath. Living at Ananda House is like being in your own boutique villa. Accessible to all guests via a separate entrance is a private spa with air conditioning, equipped with massage table and yoga mats. Above it, offering bird’s eye views of the Ayung river, mountains and endless greenery, is a meditation nest with hammock. An entirely separate structure, the GUEST PAVILION comprises two suites, Frangipani and Lemongrass. Each features an air-conditioned double bedroom with king-size beds, and outdoor terrace designed for reading or for simply drinking in the view. Both have en suite bathrooms with rain forest showers. The Frangipani bathroom is indoor/outdoor, and the Lemongrass has a dramatic brass-lined shower. Exit your suite, descend a stone path pathway that winds past coconut palms and fragrant frangipani, and you come to the heart of the house. Protected by an enormous undulating bamboo roof, the BALI LIVING PAVILION weaves together the best of indoor and outdoor life where nature is all around you, a panorama of gentle jungle, lofty palms, and trailing vines. Far below, the sinuous Ayung river is home to huge Monitor lizards. Kingfishers flash turquoise as they swoop along the valley. Butterflies dance in the tropical breeze. Separating the spectacular open chef’s kitchen from the main living area is a curving breakfast bar and, while open plan, the living/dining area has its own secrets. A cool kids’ loft is accessed by a sturdy bamboo ladder. Tucked away, our intimate Butterfly Terrace is an ideal spot for reading. The living area blends seamlessly with a large terrace equipped with six sun loungers and large umbrellas. From here are wonderful views of the sacred Ayung river. Flanked by tropical greenery is a salt water swimming pool, children’s paddling pool, and waterfall Guest access All the rooms on the house are yours, except for some locked room, those are the storage and staff private room. You can also enjoy the pool and a fully equipped private kitchen. There is also a common area like the spacious garden and the bar that you can order food at. Other things to note We welcome you on your first morning with a complementary breakfast. Also included are daily housekeeping, wifi. We also supply coffee, tea in the house. Our staff are there to help make your stay comfortable. They can arrange a car and driver to meet you, or to take you on trips to other Balinese destinations, or to restaurants. Ananda House is just 25 minutes from Ubud, the artistic centre of Bali, and 30 minutes from the white sand beaches of Sanur. They can also organize sessions with a masseuse or yoga instructor. There is also a small restaurant (Warung) that offers a delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner menu on-site or delivered to Ananda House. Staff can also cook meals for you in your own kitchen. While local village stores can supply basic supplies, we do recommend that you bring personal supplies of snacks and drinks with you.
