Makana Beach Cottage ~ A Magical Retreat

Makana Beach Cottage is an elegantly simple house in Salvo, on the Outer Banks. For 30 years, it was a year-round home, so come live like a local, Hatteras style. Located on a sound side street, Makana is ideal for romantic getaways, solitary retreats and small families. The space Built by one of the first surfers who migrated here in the 1970s, this cozy cottage was remodeled into a charming escape. The main gathering area is largely open with well-equipped kitchen, living and dining area with cathedral ceilings. There is one private bedroom and an open sleeping loft. Stairs to the loft are a bit steep, but the skylight creates a open and natural feel. The ceiling is low in the loft, so watch your head! A desk and separate work area gives you space whether on a writing retreat or logging into work. A deep covered porch, complete with sofa, runs the length of the house, allowing you to live indoors or out. The luxurious outside shower helps you rinse off the beach. Enjoy a yard of live oaks, native plants and natural visitors. Just sit back, and soak it all in. We are friendly to all, we do not provide crib, high chair, stair gates or other items for infants and toddlers. Due to local regulations (see House Rules), infants and toddlers must be included in the total guest count (limit of three guests total). There is off-street parking for up to two vehicles in an unpaved driveway. Guest access The entire home is accessible for your use. There are both soundside and ocean beach access on our street, so you are a two minute walk to the Pamlico Sound and less than 10 minutes from putting your feet in the refreshing ocean surf. Other things to note There is no large scale shopping in our village, including grocery stores, so you may want to shop prior to your arrival. On island, there are two grocery stores to our south, 20 to 25 minutes drive. We provide the following items to help you enjoy the beach: bag, towels , blanket, sun shelter, a shoulder strap cooler and a cart to carry it all to the beach. Additional items can be rented or purchased at local businesses. Living so close to the natural environment, we strive to be eco-conscious in our home. We'll ask you to join in our efforts, including recycling and conserving water and energy.
