Dubbed “Grilled Cheese Wagon” in honor of its past as a bus for a traveling family that offered “free grilled cheese sandwiches” at festivals, this bus has now been converted to sleep 4-6 people, in a classic summer-camp style bunkhouse. The porch has a camp stove, mini-fridge and water spigot, while inside we have a cozy area for hanging out, writing, or eating! Firepit, close-by outdoor camp shower and outhouse complete the campout experience. This is perfect for family or friends getaway! **IF STAYING DURING WINTER*** We will not have water turned on for winter stays, due to freezing pipes. It will be just a bit more RUSTIC, but plenty of FUN for campers!! You will need to bring your own jugs of drinking water or handwashing water. And baby wipes if you want to get cleaned up. There is a porta potty nearby as usual, and space heaters, but plan to pack as though you were going camping with extra warm things for yourself. ***THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING** While staying in the Grilled Cheese Wagon, you will also have access to your own porch, parking, and a nearby bathroom/camp shower house*. For entertainment, you can make a fire or explore the frisbee golf course on the property! While many folks might just like to take it easy and dial down the activity for a true retreat, we have a wide variety of options for those looking for something to do nearby in Gadsden, Attalla and Birmingham. From hiking Nocallula Falls, bouldering the world-class rocks at Horse Pens 40, kayaking Little River Canyon or Terrapin Creek, or the fishing piers of the Coosa in Gadsden. There are many outdoor activities we can point you towards. Check out our guidebook! Attalla has a quaint downtown full of antique shops. Nearby Gadsden has just about any kind of restaurant that could be desired, from Thai, to Italian, to an Irish pub as well as Back Forty, our own local brewery. The Coffee Bar is a nice new establishment with good WiFi! Activities like The Factory trampoline park, our local movie theater and Gadsden State theater all provide options for rainy day enjoyment. You will have access to your own unit, porch, parking, and shower house with a bathroom. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be limiting our interaction with guests and residents on the property. We are happy to answer any questions you might have through the app! Limited WiFi We offer self check in, and limited face-to-face interaction, but we definitely want to be available to answer any questions or meet any needs that may arise. Just send us a message! We have co-hosts on site, and love to make friends! We are tucked into an old time hollow in the South. You feel like you have really gotten away into the woods and have space to breathe. We have an excellent view of the night sky! Don’t be surprised to hear hunting dogs barking in the distance, someone doing target practice, or hey, was the a coyote howling at the moon? We also appreciate being just a few minutes from civilization, shopping and a Starbucks coffee shop! Best of both worlds. You should have your own transportation to really get anywhere. The public bus transportation is a very small system. Nomad's Land is a Christ-centered community and retreat. We happily host travelers and wanderers seasonally, in the fall and spring, and a more low key summer season. We especially focus our lives on Rainbow Gatherings and the traveling counter-culture. You might run into a lot of tattoos, dreadlocks, hugs and backpacks when visiting our place. Shared space needs to remain family friendly, with respect to others space and personal property.
