Get the authentic vintage "retro ranch" experience along with the best modern amenities and proven hospitality at the original Mid Century Retro Retreat in central Sioux Falls. You have the whole house, with a fully-equipped kitchen, laundry, bathroom, 3 private bedrooms and a den with a futon. You're just a few blocks away from Augustana University, Sanford Hospital, University of Sioux Falls, Midco Arena, shopping, and restaurants. Downtown and Avera Hospital is a 5-minute drive away. You deserve more than a cookie cutter experience when you travel. At the Retro Retreat you get the best vintage mid century viibe in a restored 1955 home furnished with actual atomic-era furniture and decor--along with some loving mid-mod reproductions. Our guests tell us that the vaulted post and beam ceilings and retro touches make the house both spacious and cozy at the same time. It's the perfect place to slip off your shoes and relax after a long day, 1950s style. If you want to kick back like Don Draper, we even have a cocktail shaker set, martini glasses and a restored retro bar ready for your "Mad Men" happy hour. We provide Kuerig coffee and tea. If you're a coffee purist, there's a teakettle and a french press on the shelf for you to use, along with ground coffee. The house also includes a book exchange shelf and has puzzles and games for you to enjoy. Two smart TVs are available for use with Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max or streaming from your own device. The TV in the den is on a desk and outfitted with an HDMI cord, in case you're working remotely and need another monitor. You can really cook in our fully-equipped kitchen with a convection oven and dishes, pots and pans, and essentials, like basic spices, oil, and vinegar. If you need anything that's not there, just ask and we probably can lend it to you from our kitchen. Your whole group will fit around the vintage formica/chrome table with seating for 8 in the kitchen dining area We have 2 traditional bedrooms, each with a queen sized bed, dresser and closets. Our third bedroom/groovy rec room has a twin-sized daybed and trundle bed. You can use it as a private bedroom with a sliding barn door, or enjoy the space as a quiet hangout, with a record player, card table and view of the backyard garden. Our final bed is a full-sized futon in the office/den. (Note: the listing automatically places the futon bed in the living room, but that is not accurate.) This room is semi-private, with an open doorway to the living room and its own closet. Our home has one newly remodeled bathroom with a shower/tub. You're welcome to use the washer and dryer in the hallway outside the bathroom. We also have a shady backyard patio with plenty of seating. You've got your own place to sit and enjoy the fresh South Dakota air, plus a new park model charcoal grill. In the winter, we keep it locked in the garage, but we can roll it out if you request it anytime all year long. (We provide the grill and grill tools--you'll need to pick up your own charcoal, unless we have some left behind from previous guests.) We're working to bring the front and back gardens back to their former glory. In the summer, you're welcome to help yourself to some rhubarb from our patch or cut some flowers from our wildflower garden. We respectfully ask you not to rent our house if you need to bring a pet or animal of any type, as we have family members with severe allergies and some vintage furniture that can't be replaced. No parties, please. Smoking is okay outside the house, but please use our outdoor ashtray. We're super serious about cleaning and sanitizing all surfaces. In addition, our home includes an iWave electronic air purifier in the HVAC system proven to reduce airborne pathogens. You have private access to the whole home and backyard. When the weather is nice, we may sometimes be over to cut the grass or weed the gardens, but we'll give you a heads up and stay out of your way. We're not a property management or real estate investment firm, we've carefully created and curated every room with real vintage touches and want to make sure you enjoy your stay. You receive a keypad lock code and can check yourself in and out. However, we love our little house and genuinely enjoy sharing it with guests. Our home's look and even name has been copied by others, but we're the real thing. We strive to give you a unique vintage experience--far better than staying in a hotel. We love the neighborhood, and the city, and live in our own mid century retreat just a couple of blocks away. Please do reach out immediately if there's anything we can do to improve your stay in our home! We're happy to help with any emergencies and to offer suggestions for places to eat and visit in Sioux Falls. The house is within blocks of Augustana University, Sanford Hospital, and the University of Sioux Falls. You're close to shopping and restaurants, at the edge of a tree-lined residential neighborhood of houses built in the 1950s. Downtown and Avera Hospital is a 5-minute drive away. Sioux Falls is an easy to navigate city. We've got an airport, rental cars, plus Uber and Lyft. We're within a mile of the Augustana University football stadium. The school is great about working with neighbors to keep noise and traffic down, but you will be able to hear some music from the grandstand outside the house on the Saturday afternoons when they have home football games. We are firm about the maximum number of guests. Our house can comfortably accommodate up to 8 people --more than that causes unnecessary wear to the home and can be too crowded for you. Please make sure your reservation is for the correct number of guests so we can make up the beds for you, to guarantee every guest has a comfortable place to sleep with the proper bedding.
