Spar Point Farm on Block Island is a 6 acre working family farm including a vineyard, orchard, apiary, gardens, greenhouse, and authentic wood-fired "Cob" clay oven. It offers a winning combination of being well off the main road for privacy and quiet, but less than 10 minutes by car from the main port town and 5 minutes from the airport. The farm is flanked by 230 acres of conservation land to the west and enjoys sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, striking sunsets, and wondrous stargazing. The Saltbox is situated in a quiet corner of the farm adjacent to the large parcel of conservation land known as "Rodman's Hollow," and offers unmatched views of the Atlantic Ocean and breathtaking sunsets. It's unique early-American "gambrel-saltbox" architecture provides an inviting and relaxed atmosphere in a pastoral setting. The upper floor has a spacious open plan including a living and dining area accessed by a spiral staircase. An elevated large deck extends from the upper floor and includes a grill and burner for outdoor dining overlooking the ocean and Rodman's Hollow. Please note however that there is no oven or stove indoors. There are four bedrooms with fans on the lower floor, and three of the bedrooms have patio access. Two bedrooms have queen beds, one bedroom has an antique full bed, and a smaller fourth bedroom has a twin bed. There are two full baths, one downstairs with a clawfoot slipper tub, and one walk-in shower upstairs. Next to the Saltbox, there is also a detached outdoor shower with a sweeping view of the ocean and surroundings. Owners live on the property full-time year-round. From time to time guests may see the owners at work on the farm, including but not limited to planting, watering, mowing, weeding, pruning, and spraying. The owners make every effort to keep noise and intrusions to a minimum. There is an abundance of natural and architectural beauty here to provide lots of peaceful rejuvenation and quality time with loved ones. ***BUT PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: -There are NO PETS permitted (hypoallergenic or otherwise!) -There are NO BED LINENS OR TOWELS PROVIDED (Tenants will need to bring these with them). Only pillows, mattress/pillow protectors, bedspreads are provided. -There are NO MOPEDS allowed on this property or on the access road to this property (by town ordinance) -There is NO DIRECT BEACH ACCESS from this property (but we're close to the ocean, and a short walk or bike ride along the public roadways will get you to stunning beaches :) -There are NO OPEN FIRES permitted; a propane grill is provided -There are NO DRONES permitted I greet each group personally upon their arrival. If I'm not on site in my own cottage, I am reachable by phone or Airbnb messaging to address any concerns or problems. The property is located on the south coast of the island, well off the main road, in a quiet, secluded neighborhood adjacent to Peckham Pond. 40% of Block Island is conservation land, so there are numerous hiking trails just a short walk or bike ride away. Fresh Pond, perfect for swimming, is close by. Vail Beach, a beautiful sandy beach on the south coast is accessible from the main road by foot (about 20 minutes) or bike (about 5 minutes). Guests are not permitted to cut through the neighbor's property to the south in order to reach the beachhead cliffs. If you are planning on bringing over a vehicle, please make your ferry reservation as soon as you are able by contacting Interstate Navigation, who operates the Block Island ferry. Private parking for two cars is provided. Many guests choose to bicycle around the island. Another option to get around from our place to other destination on the island is by utilizing taxi services. **MOPEDS can be rented downtown, but please note that MODEDS ARE PROHIBITED BY TOWN ORDINANCE FROM DRIVING ON THE DIRT ROADS INCLUDING OUR ROAD/PROPERTY. THERE IS NO PLACE TO PARK MOPEDS.** From late June to Labor Day weekend, there is a 7 night minimum, and the property rents from Friday to Friday. From May 1st to Late June and Labor Day Weekend through Columbus Day weekend there is a 3 night minimum stay. If you need more space to house additional guests, please visit the listings for our other rental units on the same property; the "Ocean-View Cottage at Spar Point Farm Block Island" sleeps 6 people, the "Vineyard Cottage at Spar Point Farm Block Island" sleeps 10 people, and the "Vineyard Studio at Spar Point Farm Block Island" sleeps 2 people. PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED. Please note that the check-in time of 3pm and the check-out time of 10am are fixed and non-negotiable. PLEASE NOTE that there will be an 8% tax (7% sales tax + 1% hotel tax) added onto the nightly rate mandated by the Rhode Island Department of Revenue as of July 1, 2015.
