Relax and have fun at this awesome home on a bay-side canal in Galveston's greatest little community of Jamaica Beach. Soak in the hot tub, fish from the dock, gather on the big couch under the deck, or sit at the bar and chat with family and friends. The outside area at this house is large and well shaded - its a great place to unwind and spend time playing games or just hang out. With 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, and room for 8, there is plenty of space for everyone. JB Reg No. STR22-00266 House Description ----------------------- Our Parrot-Dice Canal House is an awesome, fun relaxing place. Hanging out under the house and deck, playing games on the breezeway or patio, sitting at the bar, fishing from the dock, swimming in the canal, soaking in the hot tub – all these activities are even more fun at Parrot-Dice. The inside of the house is decorated in a fun, beachy style. The kitchen is a great place to gather and prepare food and eat. The bedrooms are comfortable. The house is a wonderful place to stay. We want our guests to have a great time, but to also be safe and healthy. Even though the inside of the house is open, bright, and clean, and the kitchen feels luxurious – it may be the outside where you spend most of your time. Upstairs outside are two large decks, connected by a short catwalk that is a deck of its own. The catwalk deck runs overtop the backyard. There is deck furniture and shade umbrellas on both decks. You can lounge close to the house, which feels a little more private, or be on the deck farther out overtop the boat dock – with a great view up and down the canal, and a great place to watch and chat with the other guests that are with you - when they are fishing or playing games in the yard by the canal. There is a propane-fueled fire-pit table on the upper deck. This is great for gathering around during cooler weather. Downstairs outside are a large breezeway under the house, and a great big patio area under the deck at the back of the house - with its own private bar! There is a finished, air-conditioned half-bathroom in the bar under the house – no running back upstairs needed. The breezeway is just that – very breezy – which is great in the summer, and a great place for grilling or sitting around the large table. The patio area under the deck is even bigger, and has a large outdoor semi-circular couch and circular ottoman to sit and relax on, under the outdoor ceiling fans. The patio has a great view of the canal, the dock and boardwalk along the canal shoreline, the back yard, and even the upper deck over the boat dock. It’s a great place to sit down your drink while you are playing games in the yard. Fishing here is great, and there are 2 kayaks that can be used for fishing or paddling. You can also fish from the dock and the boardwalk along the shoreline of our property. We do have a green LED fishing light that makes night-time fishing great. We can put you in touch with a recommended fishing captain who will pick you up on his boat right at our dock - just let us know. The house is a 5-minute drive from the beach, or about a 1-mile walk. What is really awesome is that you can drive on the beach to a spot of your choosing, and you can park your car right there on the beach – for free, no permit needed. The house is stocked with beach towels you can take with you to the beach. The private hot-tub/spa is very relaxing. It is a newer high-end model with two dual-speed jet pumps, LED lights, a water feature, and a great variety of therapy seats with many spa jets in each seat. The hot tub is in its own private, covered enclosure off to the side of the main patio area that is at the back of the house. It even has a little deck next to it. It is like you are in your own little private oasis. It is just a short drive, or 10-minute walk, to the Jamaica Beach community park and swimming pool. The park has a large playground area with lots of playground equipment, a large pavilion, and a nice community pool. There is a $5/person fee to use the pool. There are also now several quality, good food and service, bars and restaurants at the front of the Jamaica Beach community. A short drive or 5-minute golf cart ride, or 1 mile walk away. Way West Pizza is great, the Bistro (evenings) & coffee shop (mornings) is relaxing and good food, and so is Venados bar and grill. There is also a convenience store, a great food truck, a hardware store, and more. Jamaica Beach also has its own Fire, Police, and EMS services. Helpful Information ----------------------- • Trash pickup is early Monday and Thursday mornings. Sunday and Wednesday nights - Please take the trash cans to the end of the driveway by the street. Put any extra trash in BLACK trash bags and put them in the trash corral at the end of the driveway. There is a limit of no more than 2 trash cans and 2 additional black trash bags. The City of Jamaica Beach has an ordinance against leaving white trash bags outside of trash cans (birds will rip open white trash bags). Trash can lids must be completely closed so that birds and animals cannot get into the trash cans. The city will issue citations for violating these ordinances and you will be responsible for paying the fine. • There are 3 fire extinguishers. A kitchen fire extinguisher under the sink. A larger home fire extinguisher inside the cabinet to the right of the refrigerator, and a home fire extinguisher just inside the door in the bar. • The electric circuit breaker panel is on the back wall in the cabinet to the right of the refrigerator. • There are 4 security video cameras on the property. 2 facing the driveway and 1 facing the dock – the outdoor cameras are always on for security. There are no cameras facing the house or the underneath areas. There is also a camera on the top of the bookcase under the TV in the living room. Please disconnect this camera when you arrive – there is a plug connection on the back. Please reconnect this camera and point it at the sliding door before you check out. This camera is important for security purposes when we do not have guests. • There are 2 first aid kits: In the sink cabinet in the main bathroom, and in the downstairs bathroom. • The wifi network is “Bojangles” - password is “Boats 2 Build”, with spaces before and after the “2”. • There is a clothes washer and dryer in the kitchen. There is also a clothes dryer in the downstairs bathroom. • The downstairs bathroom has a remote-controlled air conditioning unit. • Kayak lock code: 3179 • Life jackets must be worn when kayaking. There is a variety of sizes of life jackets on the wall in the garage. • Kayak paddles are also on the wall in the garage. • The fishing from the dock and the boardwalk along the shore is quite good. We have a overhead green LED fish flood-light that works well. - Happy Night-Time Fishing! • You may bring your own fishing rods/reels/gear. The convenience store inside the corner gas station, the Seven Seas Grocery a mile west, Bait Daddy’s bait shop just past Seven Seas on the right , and the Academy sporting goods store in Galveston all have good fishing equipment at reasonable prices. • There are fishing rod/reels and a small set of fishing tackle you may use by the door just inside the garage. • We can put you in touch with a recommended fishing captain who will pick you up on his boat right at our dock - just let us know. • Swimming and floating in the canal is a great way to cool off on a hot day. Please put the ladder back up when you are done using it. Please do not leave it in the water when it is not being used. • There are some extra chairs in the garage. Feel free to use these anywhere on the property. • There is a small smart TV in the bar. Great to pull up a stool at the bar and watch a baseball game! • The bar has plates, glasses, and silverware. There is also a coffee maker and coffee grounds and filters. • The bar has a strip of LED lights that run around the top of the walls. The plug is up high, next to the door. • There is an ice-maker in the freezer of the large double-door refrigerator/freezer in the bar area. • There may be some large plastic picnic coolers in the garage. Please clean and dry out after using them. • The garage is stocked with lots of outdoor games: “Baggo” bean-bag toss (cornhole), “ladder-ball”, “can-jam” frisbee game, bocce ball, giant size yard Yahtzee dice/Farkle, giant size Left-Right-Center, and giant “pong” drinking game (giant cups and ball). There are some sand buckets, etc. and a football. • There is also a giant plastic Connect-Four game. It is great fun for all ages. • There is a string-ring (“Tiki-Toss”) game and a “Sharky Toss” ring-toss game on the patio. • There is a folding ping-pong table in the garage. Net, paddles, and balls are on the shelves in the garage. Feel free to move this to the driveway, breezeway, or even the yard. Please do not leave it out in the open in the weather, and please put it back where you found it before checking out. • The breezeway almost always gets a great breeze. This is great place to BBQ and/or eat outdoor meals or sit at the large table on the breezeway. • The BBQ grill is on the breezeway. It has a full propane tank and the electric ignitors work well. Unfortunately, the side burner no longer works. Please make certain to close the gas valve on top of the propane tank when not using it. The grill tools are on the shelves in the bar. Some may be in plastic containers on those shelves. • The breezeway and under-deck area have multiple low-voltage light strings. They are not bright – they are the perfect amount of light to give the area a very relaxing ambience. It seems that one or two of them sometimes have burnt-out fuses. The other strings will still work even when there are some with bad fuses. • The upper deck has LED rope lights that run around the railings. The remotes are on top of the bookcases in the living room. Point the remotes towards the light controllers that are on the far side of the deck over the dock. Sometimes you have to open the sliding door and/or go outside a few steps to get a remote to work. • The on/off switches for the outdoor ceiling fans under the deck are on a box to the left of the bar window. • The light-switch for the bar is on the back wall of the top shelf of the shelves next to the doorway. This switch also controls the lights in the garage. • The outdoor shower has hot water. It is a long run from the hot water heater to the shower, so it takes a while to warm up. Hot water is usually not necessary during the summer – the water is warm enough on its own. • If you brought your laptop with you - there is an extra computer monitor in the kitchen cabinet over the fridge, with HDMI cable, that you are welcome to use. It may make working “remotely” easier. • There is an Amazon Alexa device on the bookcase under the TV. It is great for playing music, listening to the news or weather forecast. It is not currently connected to any devices. • There is also an Amazon Alexa built into the TV in the primary bedroom. There is a switch on the bottom center of the TV to turn off the input microphone if you want. • The TV in the living room is a Samsung Smart TV. It does have voice control capability. We like to use the remote. There are many streaming apps installed on the TV. • The TV in the primary bedroom is an Amazon Fire TV. It already has some streaming apps installed. • The TV in the 2nd bedroom has an Xfinity Streaming Box. The remotes are on the shelf under the TV. • You may have to use your own login credentials for the TV streaming apps. • The kitchen is stocked with dishes and utensils. There are toasters and many other small kitchen appliances. I recommend exploring the cabinets and drawers to discover what is there. • There are full sets of knives, pots and pans, cooking sheets, cutting boards, baking equipment. • The kitchen has foil, Ziploc baggies, trash bags, etc. available for use. • There is a Keurig coffee maker and coffee bar next to the oven. There are different coffee and tea flavors and hot chocolate. There is cream and sugar next to the coffee maker. • There are some snacks on the island in the kitchen –– in case you get in late and are hungry. • There is a basket with travel size shampoo, razors, toothbrushes etc. in the main bathroom – in case anyone forgot something like this. It should get you through till you get to the store. • There are games and puzzles in the bookcases near the kitchen and in the living room. • The switch for the living room light/fan is just inside the entryway from the sliding glass door. Jamaica Beach is a collection of stilt houses in pastel yellows, vibrant greens, and bright blues that sits on a narrow strip of land on Galveston Island in southern Texas. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it sort of a place bordered on the east and west by the city of Galveston and everywhere else by water. Just 30 minutes’ drive from downtown Galveston and 90 minutes from Houston, Jamaica Beach was once a weekend vacation destination, but the town was incorporated in 1975 and it’s now a tight-knit community with a relaxed, small-town feel. It even has it's own ems, fire department, and police force. The northwestern half of Jamaica Beach is carved through with canals that feed into West Bay and are great for fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching, and the city also boasts a park and a public swimming pool that’s particularly popular during those hot Texas summers. (There is a $5/person fee to use the pool.) But - the main attraction here is the beach itself, with its wide stretches of sand and the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. There are several good bars and restaurants at the front of the Jamaica Beach community. They are a short drive, or a 5-minute golf cart ride, or a 1 mile walk away. Way West Pizza is great, the Bistro/morning coffee shop is relaxing and good food, and so is Venados bar/tex-mex grill. There is also a convenience store, a great food truck, a liquor store, a hardware store, and more. Galveston Island State Park is right next door to Jamaica Beach. Check out their web site for details on kayaking, hiking, etc. The busy end of Galveston is 20 minutes to the north-east. Check out the Galveston web sites for more information on craft breweries, water parks, arcades, miniature golf, surfing, water activities, boat rentals, fishing charters, Moody Gardens amusements, the Strand, tall-ships, marine museums, great restaurants and bars, casinos, cruise ship terminals, etc. - There is a TON to do in Galveston. Its a beach town and so much more. There are also multiple businesses offering golf-cart, "Slingshot", beach-buggy, and Jeep rentals. Golf carts are a very popular addition for a stay in Jamaica Beach. Many people like to tour the community during the day, as well as use them to shuttle to/from the beach and the restaurants and bars. Jamaica Beach is a small community in the middle of Galveston Island. You can actually drive your car on the beach here. Its a mile walk to the beach, but lots of people choose to rent a beach golf cart while they are here. Bicycles are also popular.
