Description

Nestled amongst the ancient redgums, on the banks of the Yarriambiack Creek, is the Mayfair (v2.0) Tiny House, which will be your home away from home, as you relax and unwind in this rural setting. **Please note that this listing has had to be recreated, and as part of this process, the guest reviews were not transferred across. The reviews prior to the conversion can be seen by scrolling through to the end of the photos ** The space Stay 2 nights, and for the price of a 5kg bag of carrots 🥕 🥕 (currently under $10) you can stay an extra night!! See further details below..... Mayfair (v2.0) is named in honour of the original tiny house, built in the mid 1950’s by Syd and Ed Drendel (your host's father and uncle). They named it the ‘Mayfair’ after a swanky Melbourne hotel that they stayed in. It was a ‘portable hut’, which later became known as ‘Fishermans Hut’, and resided on the banks of Lake Albacutya and then Lake Hindmarsh, in north west Victoria. The Mayfair (v2.0) is a 21st century version of the original Mayfair It aims to make you feel as comfortable as possible, whilst remaining off-grid. A loft bed, gas hotplate, shower and wood burning heater are just some of the features that will make you feel at home. A flushing toilet with a porcelain bowl is provided for extra guest comfort. The holding tank contains a biological additive which is environmentally friendly and septic safe. This additive eliminates unpleasant smells, reduces gas build up and stimulates the breakdown of waste matter & toilet paper. Outside, you will have your own secluded area, including an irrigated turf area, a fire-pit and seats and bench tops carved out of some of the redgums that have come to ground. In the summer months, sit under the shade of the magnificent redgums and take in the sunset, or admire the full moon filtering through the branches above you. In the winter months, snuggle around the campfire and watch the flames flicker and dance as you contemplate the simple things in life, and possibly toast some marshmallows. Please note that the creek may be dry (it depends on seasonal rainfall), but there are many waterholes not far away that are worth exploring. When dry, the creek makes a great walking trail. The predominant sounds will be those of the local birdlife, from early morning to early evening. And when the creek has water in it, the chorus sounds of frogs will fill the air every evening/night. In the distance, you may hear a train rattling down the main Melbourne to Adelaide line. Or you may hear the sound of tyres rolling along a gravel road, from a neighbour passing by. At certain times of the year, you may hear the sound of large machine toiling away in a nearby paddock, as the neighbouring farmer sows or harvests his crop. If you need more space to bring other family and friends, we also have these additional options on the property. - Tiny House Truck (check out the listing for "The International"). Suitable for up to 4 people. - Rustic Cabin (check out the listing for "Greenhills Tavern"). Suitable for up to 5 people. - Campsite (check out the listing for "Creekside Deluxe Campsite"). Suitable for up to 4 caravans/RV's/campers, or 12 people. Complete with decking, green grass, campfire pit and mains water. Please message the host if you would like to enquire about using any of the above. *********************************************************** Stay 2 nights, and for the price of a 5kg bag of carrots 🥕 🥕 (currently under $10) you can stay an extra night!! ** All you need to do to claim your extra night, is book a 2 night stay through any of the usual channels, and then like/tag us on your socials with your bag of carrots, and we will add an extra night to your stay...simple as that!! Things have been challenging for our region recently. Over summer, we had bushfires in National Parks either side of us, which was a huge concern, and although we were not directly impacted, visitors to the region have declined. In addition, from January 1st, the new Victorian 'Short Term Stay Levy' has been introduced to help ease the long term housing crisis. How our accommodation offerings are impacting long term housing security I do not know (don't get me started!!), but unfortunately this increases the cost to guests. And as a triple blow, we are now in severe drought, with feed getting low, and crops struggling to come out of the ground. So that is where the bag of carrots come in. With you supplying a bag of carrots to help feed our camels Gobi and Mo, you are helping us not to have to buy in feed. In addition, you are indirectly supporting drought ravaged regions, by hopefully enjoying a coffee, a beer, a meal or doing some shopping in our local community. And our community and local region need all the support we can get in times like this. 🙏 So, it is a win win for everyone!! 🏆🏆🏆🏆 👍 We get to share our unique rural escape with you. 👍 You get to stay 3 nights, pretty much for the price of 2, and you contribute to drought support within our region. 👍 Our camels Gobi and Mo will be living like kings, without us having to buy in feed. 👍 Jacinta gets her money to help the long term housing crisis. And even though we are in drought, we still have patches of lush green grass, abundant wildlife, birdsong every dawn and dusk, stunning sunrises and sunsets, starry nights, and toasty campfires. And of course, two resident camels Gobi & Mo, who love getting selfies with our guests 🤳 **Offer not available on long weekends or school holidays. Guest access Guest will have access to the tiny house and the surrounding except our private property. Respect of Property & Other Guests - We expect you to leave the property as you found it. - There may also be other guests staying at the property during your stay. The guest sites are far enough away from each other, so that you can keep your privacy. Alternatively, there may be opportunities to socialise with other guests, but that is entirely up to you. - Guests are attracted to this location for the natural environment, and the sounds of the birds and wildlife that live along the Yarriambiack Creek. Please do not disturb the tranquillity of the property with loud music and boisterous behaviour. Please respect the environment, and other guests that may be staying at the property. Other things to note Outdoor fire pit is available (not available if there is total fire ban) - 2 adult kayaks and 2 kids kayaks for hire. There is a small lake at Murtoa (10 mins) which is suitable for kayaking, as well as other waterways not far away. Enquire with us in advance for more info
