Lewis forms the north part of the Island which is attached to Harris also. The ‘Capital’ Stornoway is 20 minutes away, offering a wide selection of shops, restaurants, pubs and golf. In the centre is the impressive Lews Castle with fabulous woodland grounds and many walks, overlooking the Stornoway’s’ marina. Wildlife is in abundance and those who enjoy the great outdoors will not be disappointed with sea eagles, otters, dolphins, mink whales and many rare birds regularly spotted. Step back in time at the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, be enchanted by the mysterious Callanish Standing stones, or simply enjoy vast selection of pristine sandy beaches, including Uig Bay where the famous Lewis Chessmen were found. The Isle of Harris and its world-famous beaches are easily reached, and if you are feeling particularly adventurous daytrips over to North and South Uist are an option to really make the most of your trip!
