Description

Whether you're celebrating, reconnecting with friends, traveling with family, or simply enjoying extra space as a couple — The Nest offers private King suites and beautiful shared gathering areas. The Nest at Hoot Owl Hollow is a fully renovated 1880s log cabin featuring two Designer King suites and a bunk room, located within walking distance of downtown Mentone. Park once and enjoy privacy, comfort, and the rare experience of staying in a historic log home just steps from downtown Mentone. The space Not your average rental. Guests often say, “You thought of everything,” and “The photos don’t do it justice.” The Nest is a historic 1880s log cabin completely renovated in 2020 by award-winning designer Pat Martin (known for Highland Plaza in Birmingham and Gulf Coast luxury homes). The original two-room log structure now serves as two private King bedroom suites, each with its own full bath. A separate bunkroom (connected to 2nd suite) with private entrance makes this ideal for families. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the great room bring the hardwood forest indoors. Relax by the gas fireplace, gather around the rustic dining table, or cook on the new gas range in the fully equipped kitchen. Outdoors Walk out to the spacious rock patio with: • Built-in wood-burning fireplace (wood provided) • Outdoor dining table • Adirondack seating • Gas grill • Two-person hammock The covered porch features custom rocking chairs — perfect for morning coffee before walking into town. Walk to Downtown Mentone You truly can park once and walk everywhere: • Log Cabin Village • The Wildflower Café (.3 miles) • Elevation Bistro (.4 miles) • Mentone Market (.4 miles) • Mentone Farmers Market (.2 miles) • Brow Park (.7 miles) Many cabins claim a Mentone location but require a 10–30 minute drive. The Nest is actually in town. Nature & Privacy Though you are walkable to everything, the cabin faces hardwood forest, giving you privacy and the feeling of being tucked deep in the woods. You may hear Barred Owls at night or see deer, turkey, groundhog — and occasionally even bear. Additional Details • Laundry building just steps away with PURE WASH system • Owners live on the 6-acre property (behind vegetation) • Two other cabins on site for larger groups (up to 14 total) • Friendly dogs Gumbo & Dear Abby (happy to keep them away if preferred) Guest access Guests have full access to the entire cabin, private outdoor areas, and surrounding yard. Hoot Owl Hollow spans 12 acres — six acres surrounding the cabins and an additional six wooded acres behind them. A small bridge crosses a seasonal creek, and a simple walking trail leads into the woods for those who’d like to explore. A shared laundry room is available for guests of all three cabins and includes a washer, dryer, iron, and ironing board. The laundry room is located just past The Nest (the last cabin), on the left side of the owner’s garage. We use a PURE WASH O3 system for environmentally friendly cleaning; instructions are posted inside. Other things to note Firewood is provided for the outdoor fireplace. The Nest is one of three cabins at Hoot Owl Hollow, situated on 12 wooded acres within walking distance of downtown Mentone. Winking Owl and Hootin’ Henri are also located on the property, and when booked together the three cabins can accommodate up to 14 guests. We live on the property in a separate home behind The Nest. Our two friendly dogs, Dear Abby (flat-coated retriever) and Gumbo (black lab), may greet guests — mostly from afar. We recommend wearing shoes outdoors, as this is a natural wooded setting. If you’re quiet, you may hear Barred Owls calling at night. Deer, turkey, groundhog, and other wildlife frequently pass through the woods, making this area a delight for nature lovers.
