A Retreat Bordering NATIONAL PARK land 1 mi to C&O and 2 mi to Harpers Ferry!
Relax in this serene setting with a hot tub overlooking Harpers Ferry National Park Land. Enjoy evening fires, the pool, screened-in porch, a book in the solarium or go hiking/tubing nearby. We hope our home (Harpers Getaway) provides a tranquil backdrop to immerse you in nature and lower your stress level so you can reconnect with those you love! It is located only 1 mile from the C&O towpath & Potomac River, 2 miles (by foot) from historic Harpers Ferry w/ breweries, wineries galore nearby. The space General: PLEASE READ THROUGH EVERYTHING BEFORE REQUESTING A BOOKING, THANK YOU SO MUCH!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The property is nestled into the western slope so you can expect good afternoon sun. There are 3 living areas, one of which is a solarium with a heated concrete floor. There's a 36" steel griddle on the back deck perfect for expediting all meals. Please bring your own firewood and matches! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Age 25 Or Older To Book: The guest booking the property must be 25 years of age or older. NO PARTIES. This property is not designed to withstand that type of abuse as things are not industrial or commercial grade like a bar. It is a home and its fixtures and systems expect gentle wear. We reserve the right to request a photo or scan of a government-issued photo ID. The guest who books must stay at the property--you may not book for others if you do not intend to stay at the property. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quiet Hours Start at 10PM: Our property's quiet hours of 10 pm to 7 am are required by Washington County ordinance and enforced by local police. If the police respond to a noise complaint, every individual on the property may face a misdemeanor criminal charge and be subject to a fine by the county of $300. Failure to abide by the county noise ordinance will result in the immediate termination of the stay without refund. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Main Floor: As you enter the foyer, you'll notice good sightlines between the kitchen and the backyard/fire pit/pool area. The main space has an open kitchen/dining/living area with easy access to the screened-in porch just off the kitchen. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the main floor. Two of the bedrooms each have a queen bed and share the hall bathroom. One of these bedrooms also has a small workspace with a desk/shelves and a nice view of the forest. The owner's suite is also located on the main floor and is great for sensitive sleepers because it is isolated by a long hallway which affords 2 doors of separation with no other rooms above/below/adjacent to it. The owner's bedroom is large enough to accommodate a king bed with a firmer mattress in addition to a queen bed with a softer mattress -- take your pick! There's a deck off the owner's suite that leads to the hot tub. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lower level: This level has a large bedroom with a king bed and rocking chair along with a den that includes a bunk bed (upper bunk, kid must be over 6 years of age). There's a hall bath and laundry on top of which there's a 2nd living room with a TV and an adjacent 3rd living space; a solarium with heated concrete floors. As you can tell from us already mentioning it twice, we think the latter is the best space in the house :) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Communication: We will strive hard for 5 star reviews, so if for any reason you feel unsatisfied and that your stay was less than a 5 star experience, we ask that you PLEASE let us know beforehand so that we can do our best to resolve any issue you might be having. We can't improve your stay if you don't tell us about it! We really hope your time at Harpers Getaway is relaxing and pleasant, so please let us know how we can help improve your experience. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WiFi/Internet: Unfortunately, because the house is rural, you don’t get super-fast internet. That said, we pay the maximum amount for Viasat which ends up providing about 35mbps which is enough to watch HD video clips or stream and HD movie. However, it will lag if trying to support multiple devices all streaming HD at once (hope that makes sense). Cell reception is not great but it still works for making calls with Verizon. At the same time, hopefully you are here to unplug a bit. Leave the city/suburbs behind and get some real fresh air and less light pollution at night! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bugs: Pro Tip - KEEP A SMALL OUTDOOR FIRE GOING to keep away gnats in Summer/Fall! (Don't forget to bring firewood and matches!) This is a house 1 mile up from the river and it backs up to lots of woods (National Park land). Accordingly, there are a good amount of bugs all the time, especially in the summertime and Fall. Even if you are careful some of those bugs will find their way into the house. The best way to minimize the number of bugs inside is to keep doors and windows closed at all times. Please also carefully clean up the kitchen every night and securely package up all food. The flip side is that there are lots of birds, butterflies and bees enhancing the natural beauty. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snow-Ins: During the winter, four wheel drive / AWD is recommended in case of snow storms. Please use good judgment about whether you’d start the trip early or cancel (reach out to us!). We’ll issue a full refund for every day the house is not used due to snow-related cancellations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fire Pit: Please bring your own firewood and matches! Start a fire to keep the gnats away! You are encouraged to use the fire pit as long as you do so in a responsible manner. By using the fire pit you agree to release the owner of the property from all liability relating to injuries that may occur while using the fire pit, regardless of whether injuries are caused by negligence. If you have small children with you, please make sure they are aware that both the surrounding pavers and metal will be hot. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bunk Beds: This property has bunk beds, which pose a risk of injury. Guests agree to hold owner harmless for any injuries which may occur. They are only to be used by children and no child under the age of 6 should go on the top bunk. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Smoking: Smoking is not allowed at this property. Fireworks are not allowed at this property. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Septic System: This house has a septic system. Grease and oil must never be allowed down any of the sink drains. Feminine hygiene products must be thrown away in a trash can and not flushed down a toilet. Never flush solid trash down the toilet or into a sink drain. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sheets: At the end of your stay you will be asked to strip the sheets off the beds that were used and leave the sheets on top of the beds. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Landscaping: Please make sure that any outdoor activities respect the landscaping. Please do not play games like bag toss that would destroy the yard because people trounce the same spot for a long time. There’s an unkempt and uneven field on the higher ground beyond the fence behind the pool that could be used for other activities. We are happy to send a plat to help identify where you’re able to go, i.e. the boundaries of the 5 acres. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hot Tub and Waiver Of Liability For Use: PLEASE MAKE SURE THE COVER TO THE HOT TUB REMAINS ON WHENEVER IT IS NOT IN USE, THANK YOU! By using the hot tub you agree to follow all house rules associated with it and you release the owner of the property from all liability relating to injuries that may occur while using the hot tub, regardless of whether injuries are caused by negligence. Guests further agree that everyone using the hot tub will be clean before entering the hot tub by showering to remove lotions etc before entering to avoid biofilm build up in the hot tub. Please make sure that NO oils, bubble bath, soaps, other liquids, or any other harmful materials will be used in the hot tub because it will ruin the proper PH balance and alkalinity level that we strive to achieve to create a good guest experience. Lastly, do not bring any glassware or glass bottles near the hot tub because breakage could cause glass to get sucked into the filtering system and damage the hot tub or create danger for guests generally speaking. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neighbors: Please be respectful of the neighbors. There are kind older folks in the nearby properties so if you are feeling super excited after 10pm, please keep your excitement indoors :) Up behind the house and to the north is the remaining foundation of the area's first structure and a cabin with a young family that owns hens (+ one rooster). If you go behind the pool fence to explore in the forest, you will see the cabin. Please don't go past the fence and stay on our property (to the south of fence) to avoid going onto neighbors property. PLEASE WALK BACK IN THIS AREA AT YOUR OWN RISK. There's a small forest loop trail that we advise staying on but otherwise we advise proceeding with caution because the previous owner put up barb wire in the forest and we doubt we've found & removed it all given it's 5+ acres. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Garage: The garage is not available to guests and will be locked during your stay and the same goes for the owner's suite's additional closet. _______________________________________________________________ Guest access There's enough parking for 4 vehicles in the driveway. Turning around will be a bit tricky -- PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF THE DRIVEWAY LIGHTING while turning around. The closest access to the C&O towpath WITH parking is Dargan Bend Boat Ramp. It's about 5-7 min drive and is a great spot to take kids to walk along the river. If you go to the right, there's a cool cave kids might like about 0.4-0.5 miles down the path. Other things to note We list the total number of guests as 8. The bunk beds are for children and can not support an adult's weight. No child under 6 should be in the top bunk. Apart from the bunk room, we have 4 additional rooms with a combination of 2 king beds and 3 queens.
