A sustainable, community-focused retreat! 📍 The space Our home features the original hardwood flooring, transom windows, raised ceilings/doorways with most of the original trim-work. We’ve added on the master spa bathroom featuring heated floors and towel rack and large modern glass enclosed shower. All super high end. The master bedroom is spacious with plenty of drawer and closet space to make yourself at home. Luxury linens and comfy bedding too. And in the second bedroom - a surprise queen Murphy bed that folds away to transform the space into a yoga retreat or bonus work space as needed. An added bonus for guests is in the kitchen - we have lots of gadgets and several coffee/tea making devices to suit your preference. We even provide a Nespresso for you so feel free to indulge. One of the best features is the location just in front of Emerson Park (and Community Garden). This was the site of a former school house transformed into a community space. We have since given up our plot in the garden but feel free to wander about or sit and enjoy the green space. Many of our neighbors have plots there and it truly brings to life the meaning of community gardening. The style of home is a traditional Shotgun house. Shotguns are simply long rectangular dwellings, one room wide and generally one story. It is believed that they were first built in the U.S. in Louisiana by free Haitians. It is thought that the Shotgun house was brought to Louisville by French fur traders. Louisville has the largest collection of Shotgun houses in the entire country. Most of Louisville’s Shotguns are over 100 years old, having mostly been built between 1890 and 1915. Guest access There is street parking in front of the house. It is customary for the neighborhood to leave parking available in front of each home, usually enough for two cars (we have a car and truck we usually park out front). There is also street parking one house down from us around Emerson Park. Sometimes if there is an event going on in the park or at Monnik Brewery parking can get a little tight but if there is nothing in front of the house you can always swing around the back of the house and park on the grass strip along our fence (by the community garden). We have the keyless entry system setup on the front door. We will reach out to you a few days before your checkin with details on how to prepare to use the system.
