A refuge from the everyday. Winter skiing at Liberty, visiting the Gettysburg Battlefield, hiking the state parks, golfing at Gettysburg National, or just sharing with family; Cornerstone Simplicity is a 5 bedroom, 4 1/2 bath, spacious, stone farmhouse available as a vacation home rental. With an office, large lawn, swing set, and a propane grill; there is plenty of space to enjoy life in historic Adams County. Enjoy a long weekend or longer in this home away from home. Our home has been used as a family house for many years. Originally built to house three generations (grandparents, parents, kids) in a side-by-side format, the home was completely renovated in the 1990s for one family. Electricity, plumbing, and the kitchen were all modernized. Air-conditioning was added. All windows were replaced and doors and floors were refinished. We have kept our family retreat as a simple escape from the crowded, rushing hustle of the world. Exposed stone walls and classic-farmhouse hard and soft wood flooring create a warm space to share. We now make the home available to other families for a vacation home rental. This is a simple farmhouse that has had three additions put on. The additions provide the amenities of a modern house while integrating with the simple pleasures of the original farmhouse. The ground floor common spaces include a large family room, a large kitchen, a separate dining room, an office, and a sitting room making space to spread out. The kitchen has enough space to share the cooking. There is an eat-in counter for friends to have a snack or conversation. We provide a drip coffee maker, dishes, flatware, and pans. A sunroom provides an entrance foyer. The family room is large providing space for kids to play. The dining room has an extendable table that can easily fit eight, and more than once our family has fit 12. Also on the ground floor, there is an office with a futon separated with its own anteroom. There is a half bath off of the family room. Finally, on the ground floor there is a bedroom with an adjacent full bath and laundry room. The bedroom has an entrance to the front porch. On the second floor there are four bedrooms. The first bedroom, designed as a primary bedroom, has a king bed, an en suite small bathroom, a full size crib, and a large walk in closet. This bedroom has windows on three sides of the house and two ceiling fans. The second bedroom is a kids room with a set of bunk beds and an extra long twin. There is ample space for a toddler bed in the room as well, which we can provide. The third bedroom is the smallest bed room, but still easily fits a queen bed, dresser, and chair. An exposed stone wall and gently finished wood framing creates a homey rustic feel. The second and third bedrooms share a large bathroom with a tub shower off the main hall. Finally, above the kitchen up a narrow staircase is a second primary bedroom with its own bathroom en suite. This room is also accessible using the main stairwell. Our home has a tv screen/monitor you can hook your computer to in the family room. We do not have cable television or dish service. There is so much space to enjoy outside we prefer outdoor activities or indoor reading. We provide mesh wifi with T-Mobile home internet. There is good ATT and Verizon cell phone service within the house. As part of the home's renovation, many of the original floors were refinished. They glow with warmth. They have unique knots, colors, and texture fitting to a classic farmhouse. A full size washer and dryer are available onsite. We keep approximately 5 acres of lawn mown. This provides an approximately 1/2 mile "loop around the acres" for walking or exercise outside. A large swing set is available for swinging for adults or children. The barn, while not accessible to guests, provides a scenic backdrop to the home. The property contains a hill/mountain that has a hiking trail that can be used certain times of the year with permission. Finally, there are approximately 200 apple trees for commercial agricultural production. Please do not pick the fruit. It is a part of the working farm. We are happy to make our home and farm available to you so you can create memories of simple farmhouse living for your family. Our extended family remains across the field, down the street, and around the corner to help with any of your questions about the valley, Ski Liberty (5 mi), historic Gettysburg and the Civil War Battlefield (11 mi), or what farming means to us today. Cornerstone Simplicity gets its name from the significant cornerstones built into each corner of the original farmhouse where you will be staying. They form the frame of the home that has sheltered our family for years & years. Guests will have access to the entire house except the garage, attic, owners' storage, and basement. Guests can enjoy the covered porch, large lawn, and mown walking loop. Because the surrounding farm land is producing crops for market, guests do not have access to the farmer fields or barn. Guests may walk in the orchard and enjoy the apple blossoms in the Spring, fruit can only be picked with specific instruction in the Fall. Recommendations for fresh eggs and grass fed beef from local farmers are available. Fresh produce from neighboring farms is available seasonally. The farm and farmhouse has been in our family for many generations. We are pleased to share this home with you for short or long term stays. We can be available in person to greet you or self-checkin is available. During your stay we are available via Airbnb, by phone, and in person for any questions or recommendations for grocery shopping, outdoor activities, state parks, historic battlefield, ghost tour, or restaurants and wineries. Currently a few goats live in the barn. Please ask about opportunities to help us feed the goats each day. They are on special diets so do not feed them without working with us. When field work is going on at the farm, we encourage a friendly wave only. Wave to the farmer on the big tractor, take a few pictures. This is a working farm and being in the tractor means it is a work day. Most of the time, however, the real farm work is done by the sun to feed the crops and the rain to help the crops grow. Spend time nestled between hills in the valley that appears much as it did 200 years ago. Our home is surrounded by over 160 acres of preserved farmland and forests and is adjacent to hundreds of acres of additional conservancy protected land. Apples, soy beans, corn, & hay are being grown on the property in addition to native hardwoods. We maintain a small number of goats. There is easy access to historic Gettysburg & the Civil War Battlefield, charming Fairfield, Liberty Mountain Resort for skiing & golf (just 5 miles away), the Appalachian Trail, & the Gettysburg National golf course. Hiking in state lands is available in the Michaux State Forest & Caledonia (8 mi) and Mt Alto (9 mi) State Parks. Additional winter skiing is available at Whitetail Mountain Resort (39 miles) & Round Top Mountain (42 miles). Cornerstone Simplicity is set back from the road for those wanting to get some time apart or escape from the city. Around the home there are approximately 5 acres of lawns to enjoy, beyond the lawns there are hundreds of acres of farm land. While the farmed lands are not accessible as part of the rental, they create the perfect space and backdrop for families & friends to spend time together creating memories. A "loop around the acres" which we keep mowed, gives landscaped walking trails of just about a half mile. With specific permission, a mountain loop can be hiked. This loop is not maintained, is a rigorous hike, and is only available certain times of the year. We have a gravel parking area adjacent to the house that fits four cars. Nearby amenities are short drives away. Rarely car sharing rides are available. Many people will bike the country roads around Adams County but there are no bike lanes, so be careful. On many days we enjoy watching the sunlight change across the sky from our broad front porch with wooden rockers. After a rain, the valley frequently provides a rainbow for pictures. We are 5 miles from Ski Liberty and the Carroll Valley golf course. We are less than 2 miles from Gettysburg National golf course. Civil War monuments and historic sites are as close as Fairfield and Cashtown, the Gettysburg National Park visitors center is 11 miles away. What we most enjoy about the farm is the backdrop of the open space, stone walls, classic farmhouse architecture, orchards, and forests that provide for family time and pictures that we cherish for generations.
