The community has a fire department that is also manned 24/7. So many Big Canoe driveways are steep while ours is long and flat. We love entering our kitchen door by way of a ramp, sitting on the screened-in-porch listening to the rain on the tin roof, and smelling the mountain air while taking in the serenity of the mountains from the huge deck. We also love star gazing from the deck. Recently added propane fueled fire table and 4 outdoor wicker swivel chairs adds to the ambiance on the deck! Trees have been pruned to allow for breaktaking views. We get daily visits from 2 eagles catching the thermals. Spring through fall, deer make their way up from the valley past our house to another valley beyond. Inside activities include playing one of the 4 games on the Multi Game Table, (Hover hockey, billiards, table tennis and finger shoot basketball!) There is everything activity available on a first come, first serve pay-as-you-go basis here at Big Canoe. We especially enjoy the pickleball courts and the beautiful indoor heated lap pool. Renting a pontoon boat on beautiful Lake Petit is a family favorite. Fun to have dogs at Big Canoe. There are 3 dog parks. Please let us know if you are bringing your furry friend and limit is 1 dog. Please only bring well-behaved, house-broken dogs, as we love our pretty cabin. The dog fee is $10/night. Atlanta is only an hour, if you have to get back to the city, but we love working from the living room in front of a fire or at the big dining table or kitchen bar! The 5G wifi is excellent and reliable. Delicious restaurants and fun shopping await, both in Big Canoe and just outside the main gate and the North Gate. The Big Canoe chapel is very inviting, as is Trinity church, outside the North Gate. A two mile drive (or an hour and 45 minute hike!) away is the top of Sanderlin Mountain . An easy 10 walk from there takes you to the top of Mt Olgethorpe and the beautiful 110 acre Eagle's Rest Park. Mt Olgethorpe used to be the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. The current terminus is at Springer Mountain, accessed from Amicolola State Park, about 12 miles away. We love the fact that there are 4 tall viewing decks, facing north, south, east and west. We can see our cabin from the east facing deck! The charming towns of Elijay and Dahlonega are closeby, as are several wineries! Come and enjoy the quiet of cabin life, recharge and then, go exploring! Guest access Entire home and yard! Other things to note Please limit the number of dogs to one. Please only bring a housebroken dog and preferably crate them if you leave so that they will not scratch the doors.
