1856 high gothic revival brick country villa designed by architect Frederick C. Withers (Jefferson Market Library) in the hamlet of Balmville. Within the house is a cozy one bedroom second floor suite through a private side entrance and up a flight of stairs. Freshly updated with a mix of antique and contemporary furnishings against a backdrop of safe but stylish Farrow & Ball paint colors. Relax, enjoy complementary coffee and tea -- just make yourself at home. This guest suite is in the original staff quarters of a large country villa. The approach to the home is quite impressive. We feel this adds to the value of the space and the 2 acre grounds with the exception of the rear of the house are free to roam. A stone walled grilling/dining patio is outside the entrance door and guests are welcomed to picnic on the pastural front lawn. As a guest, you'll have full access to the apartment, parking right outside the entrance, front lawn and side stone-walled patio with fire pit and Weber grills, ice bucket. Level 2 EV charging is available for limited emergency purposes only with a fee based on current rates and only when owner is home to grant access. Access can not be guaranteed at this time. We are hosts in residence in the main part of the house. Please feel free to ask for help whenever needed. Balmville is a place of old country estates now with midcentury suburban expansion and classified as sparse suburban. It still retains its bucolic nature and feels more removed from the bustle of Newburgh than its 1 mile drive down Old Balmville Rd suggests. The old homes here are an extension of the historic district of Newburgh and collectively are part of the area's historic home tours. Under 10 minutes from dia:Beacon and the Beacon train station and served by Uber, Lyft and local taxi. Right out the door is a great loop of rolling hill roads to walk, run, bike on. A quick 3 minutes to Grand St. in Newburgh where we like to start our neighborhood walk to take in the architecture and shop and dine on Liberty and Broadway. It's 15-20 minutes to West Point and Storm King Art Center. 30 min. to the Shawagunk Mountains, Minnewaska State Park and Awosting Falls. So many antique shops, breweries, wineries and orchards nearby. Easy drives to Kingston, Saugerties, Hudson, FDR Library and Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park and the Walkway Over The Hudson State Historic Park between HIghland and Poughkeepsie is just 25 minutes away. Magazzino Italian Art is a 22 min. drive over to Cold Spring with another main street to stroll, dine and shop on and Breakneck Ridge and Storm King Mountains to hike on. Well behaved, groomed dogs are welcome. Cats or other pets are not permitted. Owner has 2 behaved dogs on premises in separate wing of home.
