Description
Our family’s rustic cabin is located on 9 of the most beautiful acres in the mountains. The property is a former trout lodge. The cabin sits on the Thompson River. It is completely surrounded on all four sides by US forest. Waterfalls, trout pools and hiking trails are directly accessible from our cabin. The space At the end of our private gated gravel road after a short drive through United States Forest you will find nine of the most beautiful acres in western North Carolina. The Property was formally operated as "Sweet Water Fly-Fishing Lodge" and has level access to the Thompson River, known for it's Brown Trout and wild Rainbow Trout fishing. "White Owl Falls" is reachable from our two short private maintained hiking trails. This cabin is for families, hikers, trout fly-fisherman, hunters, and people looking to trade the stress of civilization for nature, beauty, and fresh air. Our nine acres include a cabin located on a large mountain meadow surrounded in all directions by US Forest Land and the 500,000 acres of Nantahala National Forest. The Thompson River flows directly beside the cabin. In other areas the Thompson River is mostly unaccessible by vehicle and typically only accessed by fisherman after a lengthy hike. Our property is one of the few spots accessible by vehicle. Both sides of this level trout river are private property for our renters' exclusive use. Our property includes four trout holes and rough trails into Federal Forest Land for fishing, swimming, hiking, and exploration. Adjoining the property, a ten-minute walk from the cabin's front door is “White Owl Falls", a thirty-five foot waterfall and swimmable lagoon accessible from our property's private hiking trail. Down river from our property is “Tall Falls". There are also two swimmable pools, river level and flow permitting, in the Thompson River on our private property. One pool is just off the large back porch of the cabin and another pool a short walk through the forest. There is a large covered pavilion feet from the river, with a rock fire pit, picnic table and Adirondack chairs. The property is located on Whitewater Road. In one direction a few miles north is the main entrance of North Carolina's Gorges State Park, in 2012 named by National Geographic Magazine as one of the "50 last great places", and a few miles south on the same road is Whitewater Falls, the largest waterfall in the U.S. east of the Mississippi, and access to "The Foothills Trail", a seventy-six mile long distance hiking trail. The cabin's outdoor spaces include a large covered rocking chair front porch facing the meadow, a large deck in the back, and a screened in porch just off the kitchen over looking the Thompson River and the Nantahala National Forest. Inside our rustic cabin the main floor has two bedrooms: the master bedroom, which has a king bed (not shown) with two walls of windows overlooking the forest and river, and one large walk in closet, and a bedroom with bunk beds. These two bedrooms share access to the cabin's main bathroom. On the main floor there is also the kitchen, dining area, and living room, all open concept. The living room includes a gas fireplace built with rocks collected from the river outside. All bedrooms have baseboard heaters. Rarely is air conditioning needed, but if called for there is a large newly installed top of the line min-split a/c unit in the main living space. There is a downstairs with an additional three simple bedrooms, one with a full bed and two with queen beds and the house's washer and dryer. One of these bedrooms has direct access to the meadow. The second bathroom is downstairs and includes a full bath tub. There is a small third bathroom downstairs. There is also a bunk area in the living area downstairs. Additionally, for families with young children, there is pack and play crib, booster seat, high chair, children's books, toys, and movies stored on site. This is a cabin for a family, group of friends, couple, hikers, or fishermen who value the beauty of nature, the forest, water falls, solitude, and being on a river.
