The space Reduced Rates for 2024! The N. K. Harper Barnhouse is located just 8 minutes from Main Street on a private, gated ranch. This stunning barn is the epitome of a hill country-designed escape, tastefully appointed and designed (The Savant Home from Austin, Texas) with quality and comfort as the main priorities. The outdoor views are incredible and you may feel time stands still here. While you're cozied up to the fire or just sitting on the porch, please take comfort in the comfy adirondack furniture and fireside blankets we provide in the dining area armoire. Firewood and fire starter logs are provided for a 4+ hour fire each night of your stay. Upon entering the N.K. Harper Barnhouse, you may find yourself in awe at the construction, decor and appeal of this masterfully-crafted house. This gorgeous structure is pure eye candy everywhere you look and a great place to gather with friends and family to make new memories. To your left is a sitting area with an antique game table (replaced by a 12' Christmas Tree the weekend after Thanksgiving). The next bay holds the copper top table and 6 comfy chairs in the dining area with Blackjack or Poker table topper. The armoire is stocked with all the poker chips and cards you'll need. We've stocked the giant imported cabinet in the dining area with a full poker set for Texas Hold'em, Blackjack or any other card game you prefer. There's also Scrabble, Chess, Checkers, Trivia & a huge selection of DVD's if you prefer to kickback and watch a movie in the living area or utilize the Firestick on the SmartTV for Netflix or Hulu or stream your own movies. Beyond the dining area is a well-stocked kitchen with a coffee station, spices, cookware, bakeware, a crockpot/slow cooker and an electric skillet big enough to serve a large gathering a country breakfast! To the right is a fantastic living area space complete with gorgeous one-of-a-kind leather and cowhide sofa, chair and longhorn-legged tables. The wall-mounted TV, DVD player (behind the TV) are great entertainment should you decide to stay in. Next you'll find the stairs to the sleeping area upstairs with one of the most unique and well-appointed bathrooms you've ever seen. Upstairs you'll find 3 amazingly comfy King Beds with privatized areas for sleeping as well as a sitting area. Guests constantly comment on how well they slept here due to the attention to our pillows, mattresses and linens. You'll notice the interior lighting is very "old school" and at night, it becomes quite the spectacle when sitting by the fire. Then that moment will hit you..."this place is amazing!" If you choose to book the the other houses in addition to the N.K. Harper Barnhouse, Legacy Ranch sleeps 12. HISTORY OF N.K. HARPER & THE BARN: The N. K. Harper Barnhouse was named after Nolan K. Harper, who was a father of 7 & retired from Exxon in 1984. He worked relentlessly and through brutal winters from 1977-1979 in Alaska on the Alyeska Pipeline, for which he was very proud to be a part of. Born in Dallas & raised in Freer, Texas, he was a hard-working, self-made man who loved his family but was always an expert in any field he put himself in. He was a naturally talented architect, craftsman, businessman and father. The N.K. Harper Barnhouse honors Nolan by way of his nature: craftsmanship, industry & warmth. The N.K. Harper Barnhouse was masterfully built in 1890's Missouri. In 2010, it was re-built on this site with added impeccable iron work. The builder's attention to detail included building the barn & allowing it to weather for six months before enclosing it with walls & the metal roof. They paid special attention to the trolley in the ceiling & continued that design with the Edison bulb lighting over the foyer table. The barn showcases oil & gas memorabilia honoring N.K. Harper, an impressive array of iron & metal work throughout as well as an unusual and artistic display of longhorns. THINGS TO NOTE BEFORE BOOKING: For Safety reasons, NO CHILDREN UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE ALLOWED. All persons in your party must be accounted for in the guest count, no exceptions. Guests found in violation of booking rules will have their reservation terminated immediately and cancellation rules will be exercised. Also, should your guest list change, please inform us of your guest list change(s) ASAP so you may receive a credit for less guests or potentially make a payment for the additional guests. Within 24 hours of making the reservation, we require the person making the reservation provide host a clear copy of a valid government issued ID of all guests 18 years old and over. Please provide copies of the ID's in the Air Bnb messenger or text them to us. We are no longer allowing bachelorette parties unless the group consists of at least three generations of ladies. Unfortunately we’ve experienced far too many issues with bachelorette groups of ladies in their 20’s. When Moms and grandmas are present, the experience is better for both host and guests. Thank you for understanding. The incredible wedding venue is complete and Legacy Ranch now hosts weddings (wedding day or a wedding weekend) for up to 100 wedding day guests, 12 wedding weekend guests across the guest houses! **Please note weddings DO NOT take place during your stay** The wedding venue isn't open to guests without Legacy Ranch staff present. EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 2018: DUE TO DEFICIENCIES WITHIN THE CHECKOUT PROCESS WITH AIR BNB REGARDING TAXES, ALL GUESTS WHO BOOK WITH US ARE ACKNOWLEDGING THE RESERVATION PROCESS WITH AIR BNB IS A TWO-TRANSACTION PROCESS. Air Bnb only collects Hotel & Occupancy Tax for the STATE, we must send you a separate request for the COUNTY tax. We apologize for this inconvenience. Guest access The N.K. Harper Barnhouse has expansive views and offers the best view of grazing animals, both wild and domestic. The sunrises and sunsets are incredible here. Located at the back of the property, the longhorns and cows may also make an appearance. Though you have parking right outside your guesthouse, you may not want to leave the patio but morning walks on the property are a treasure. Other things to note The front gate is always kept closed for your privacy and security. Prior to check in, you will receive the gate code. Additionally, each house has its own access code which you will receive prior to check-in & after the Gillespie County Hotel & Occupancy Tax is paid. We feel all our guests deserve the peace and quiet of the hill country. Though we are a wedding venue as well, no large weddings will take place during an AirBnb-booked stay. The largest events that could occur (with your knowledge & consent) are a proposal or elopement which was pre-planned prior to booking. Note: Nightly rates are based on guest count. Should your guest count increase or decrease, please let us know! PARKING: Due to underground utilities, driving or parking on grassy areas is prohibited. PARK ON PAVED AREAS ONLY. FIREWOOD: If your guest house has a firepit, we stock enough firewood, fire starter and starter logs for one 4+ hour fire. (Please do not burn more than 6 logs at a time in the fire pits of the NK Harper Barnhouse) Due to risk of wildfire, please check the weather ahead of starting your fire. Never burn when it’s breezy and never leave a firepit unattended. Keeping the fireplace screen on the fire pit is a must...the Barnhouse is highly allergic to fire! ;-) GUESTS RE-ARRANGING: Any outside furniture is intended to stay outside. Please keep Indoor furniture, pillows and indoor linens indoors. ADDITIONAL DÉCOR FOR ALL TO SEE: Please refrain from using phallic or obvious potentially offensive décor outside your guest house for other guests on property to see. Party like your sweet grandmother will show up at any given time. WIFI: Our wifi is strong and you are free to stream movies on your laptop. SmartTV & Firestick access to Netflix and Hulu is in place. CAMERAS: Due to our Wildlife exemption granted January 2019, there are outdoor cameras on property. Please do not tamper with them, turn them off or unplug the camera components. POWER OUTAGES: It is rare, but during severe weather, the electricity may temporarily go out. This is beyond our control. The power company has always been really great at restoring power quickly. LOCATION: We are on a private gated ranch which is an 7-8 minute drive to Main Street on Highway 87. It is inconsiderate to shortchange us on our star rating during your review for our location if you expected to be closer to downtown. We are NOT downtown and our guests continuously rave about the private hill country experience as they preferred NOT to be downtown. We cannot control the location of our property, so if a downtown experience is what you’re seeking, please book downtown. STEPS: Each of our houses have steps. The Dr. Okerholm Loghaus has exterior steps which is authentic to the architectural style of this house as well as necessary due to the topography. The N.K. Harper Barnhouse has a step on the front patio into the home and interior steps to the upstairs bedroom loft. The N.K. Harper Barnhouse has step-free access through the back doors. Please note that we are not required, nor do we promote any of our houses as being ADA compliant. Air Bnb only collects the STATE tax during your checkout. Air Bnb requires Hosts collect the 7% Gillespie County Hotel & Occupancy Tax in a separate transaction. This must be paid ahead of your arrival and is collected a few days before check-in. No guests will be provided the gate code or door code to their reserved guest house until confirmation is received that the Hotel & Occupancy Tax is paid & the guest list is provided.
