Airbnb regular travelers Quiet neighborhood, central location, close to downtown Small compact home, bungalow cottage style: 950 square feet Owner occupied 1 guest room, 1 guest Shared 1 bathroom MUST LOVE DOGS as home is home to Grayson - loves people and loves attention from Airbnb guests! This listing is best suited for experienced Airbnb travelers and experienced dog owners. Grayson, my 6-year-old Norwegian Elkhound will greet you with a deep bark - which is indicative of his breed, which gives way in a few minutes to adorable hugs and sitting on your feet, as Elkhounds are family dogs as part of their breed profile and love companionship! ROOM: Enjoy the guest room with a full-size, white cottage iron bed and comforter. TV. Small refrigerator and coffee maker in the room. Window air conditioner and ceiling fan for summer, plenty of blankets and a cozy fireplace space heater for winter. Hangers, guest towels, hamper, hair dryer, extra linens, full length mirror, are located in the comfort of the guest room. A guest will do best if they pack light, the room has a guest closet but overall a bit on the small side which reflects a 1940 era home. I have however accommodated a number of travel medical professionals who have stayed from 10 days to 12 weeks and we have made it work with acceptance of layout and laughter! MORE ON GRAYSON: For non-experienced dog owners, my dog does have a deep bark that can be intimidating to those that are not familiar with dogs or have had bad experiences with dogs. Grayson roams the shared areas with the pet gate set up at the short hallway so you can enjoy the guest room and bathroom without crossing paths during your stay. I will crate him at arrival time so it’s easier to get luggage in and then we will have an introduction - His initial hello is deep barking with excitement, which to the novice dog owner can appear intimidating, but then he quickly settles down as all he wants is extra hugs from guests! While my dog is chill and cuddly with people, he is excitable around other dogs and it is best if he is only one in house. SHARED AREAS Guest will need to enter and exit the home via the shared areas of living room, conversation room so we will just work together on this so that you are comfortable as Grayson will then be crated or put on leash as you come and go during your stay. During my work times and errand running Grayson is accustomed to being crated while I am gone or if comfortable with Grayson uncrated, he often will chill in his dog bed in the living room. WHAT TO EXPECT: Grayson will shed as he is a double coated breed. Staying overnight or a 3-day visit one will not be impacted but extended stayers will begin to notice even with regular vacuuming, as it’s just the nature of owning a double coated breed!! Lint brushes provided! LAYOUT OF HOME There is not a private entrance to guest room. One must enter home to get to room. Home is 950 square feet. Master bedroom and guestroom are close and separated by 8-foot hallway. The one bathroom is shared with homeowner and is in between rooms. A photo of the home will be sent before arrival/upon request. EXPERIENCED AIRBNB TRAVERLERS PREFFERED: As this is a small, compact home guests do well if they are comfortable in small spaces. The guest room is the room that is especially prepared for your stay to be comfortable and carefree. Shared spaces such as living room, conversation room and kitchen are more lived in. The shared areas reflect a working household, walking dog twice a day and real-life errands in a compact space, this home is in motion and reflects a casual but pulled together environment. FURTHER INFOMATION: MUST indicate in booking inquiry reason for travel/needing accommodation. Open to all for booking requests - have hosted guests traveling across the country, visiting colleges from Rose-Holman to ISU, work interviews and even guests that are attending weddings or the Special Olympics held here locally. SAMPLE OF PAST GUEST STAYS: Elizabeth, a physical therapist from Texas on assignment at Union Hospital, was here 13 weeks in 2018. In 2019, Jackie from Vermont, also a physical therapist, enjoyed her 13 weeks on assignment and enjoyed Union. In 2021, I had the pleasure of hosting Melissa, an RN working in the ICU at Union Hospital, on travel assignment. Melissa is from Porter County, Indiana, 3 hours away, and would work the night shift and sleep days at my home from Thursday through Sunday. We became fast friends over time and today I have the honor of calling her a friend as I have met her family and visited her home! Guests traveling across country, usually from PA or Ohio, making their way to the west coast have enjoyed a soft landing overnight. Even hosted a teacher on a mission assignment quickly departing the Ukraine to safely make it back home in the U.S. Average ages of guests have been from mid 20's to 50's and up and enjoy getting to know everyone that stays! Looking for a week stay while transitioning from one housing platform to another - this is a great place to stay while you wait for your other housing become available. For guests staying for awhile, there are many outdoor and local activities to do while you are here: Green lush parks with lakes, hiking and biking trails (many guests bring their own bikes in tow), tennis, pickleball, disc golf courses as well as local golf courses. Local wineries that have great tasting room atmosphere with local singers, Terre Haute Brewing Company with a great Taproom, local run restaurant flavor with small town feel...but also have the standard national chains to choose from. A first-run movie theater, an outdoor concert venue, yoga studios, national shopping chains, we have most of everything. We enjoy a small Saturday morning Farmers Market within walking distance to my home, a Saturday afternoon multiple food truck space located in the historic 12-points area and local festivals to enjoy spring, summer and fall. We also have plentiful 12-step fellowships in the area if wanting to attend while on travel. REMINDER: DOG IN THE HOUSE! Medium-size dog, 54 lbs. He is very excited and friendly on arrival and after a few minutes will settle down and will love getting a few minutes of attention from you! He is very well crate trained and is appropriately crated during your stay. In the evenings he is in my room so guests can come and go in the morning as they need to. He is an active shedder. A double coated breed, it is virtually impossible to eradicate all dog hair. Lint brushes provided. Grayson calms down in 5 minutes once he comes into your presence and just wants rubs and sit on your feet. If you have owned a Husky, you will feel at home here as Grayson and Norwegian Elkhounds are similar to Huskies in temperament and personality! This home is small and Grayson is a part of the home and shared spaces. Elkhounds were bred to alert their hunter masters in the Viking era of Norway that were tracking bear, elk and other game that they were on the right track. They are known as a Family dog and are very social with people. FOR REVIEW To review for the first time Airbnb guest as well as for the seasoned Airbnb traveler: • 1940’s bungalow, 950 square feet. Inside there has been an update of fixtures and painting, etc. Original floors that have character squeaking... and shows dog hair, sigh. • Homeowner lives in home and will be here during your stay. • One shared bathroom. • There is no separate entry to house. • Bedrooms are separated by one bathroom and a short 8 -foot hallway. • Entry to guest room is through living and dining room which are shared spaces. • Some kitchen use for light use prep and storage, although guest room has a mini-fridge and is adequate for most use. Just note that kitchen is in use daily by hom owner and reflects daily use. For those staying longer, you will have access to store food in kitchen fridge. Washer and dryer use for extended stays and is in basement. Basement can be wet at times, please bring extra shoes to leave at top of stairs. •Shared space for this listing is living and dining room – while there is no formal definition of shared space from Airbnb website - for this listing it will be defined as the normal lived-in feel and appearance of a typical home. This is a dog home. Comes with Puppy Kisses: • Grayson, my Norwegian Elkhound is 6 years old lives in the home and is excited to meet you! • He is very friendly and cuddly puppy. Upon arrival he will be very excited for a few minutes and then calms down. • A medium size, double-coated, active breed, sheds. The nature of shedding is difficult to vacuum even every day to capture all the furballs so please note stray strands and small fur balls. • The guest room is off-limits to Grayson with a pet gate so you can enjoy your space while you’re are here! • Grayson is crated appropriately during your stay and stays in my room in the evenings. • While not a consistent barker, he does bark on occasion. We want to make sure this is a good fit for our home as well as make sure that you enjoy your stay!
