We are in a very quiet area, so you are not right on top of other groups. We are handicap accessible on the ground floor, including a wheelchair ramp and roll-in shower. We have a spacious house that was designed for larger groups so you have plenty of seating for hanging out, we are kid and pet friendly, we have a walking trail across the bottom of our acre plus yard, plenty of parking space, really nice kitchen utensils and place settings, we make up the beds for you before you come, we have a gas BBQ, and--well, so many other nice features! Nestled deep in the majestic western Sierras (but easily accessible by road) our 4,000+ square foot retreat with its spacious kitchen, 4.5 baths, bunkroom (3 full over full and 1 twin over twin), 3 big master bedrooms (one with an in-room two person Jacuzzi jetted tub), living room, den, man-cave with surround sound hi-res TV, this retreat has an atmosphere of quiet and comfort. Fall, spring and summer guests enjoy spring skiing, hundreds of miles of hiking and bike trails (one even passes through our backyard), popular 4 wheel drive roads, rock climbing, world class freshwater fishing (lake and stream, stocked and native), swimming and nature viewing. Winter Guests enjoy spectacular downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding and sledding. Upstairs and garage are handicap accessible, with a bathroom & shower for wheelchair access. The Man Cave offers a place to just hang out and make noise without bothering anyone else. The constant on-demand water heater never runs out of hot water so you have plenty! Fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops, all cooking gear, and a table seating 12 at a time. Electric power can be turned off here (and in any other areas in California considered "high risk for fire") by the electric company, without warning. Storms can also turn off electric. This means wifi, air conditioning, possibly cell phone connection, lights, TV will all be off. We do NOT offer refunds for lack of electric service. There is emergency lighting and heat and cooking by wood stove available. Firewood is provided. There is a hiking trail off the back of the property, so you can hike most seasons (or snow shoe during the winter months) without driving anywhere. This is a very quiet neighborhood so you can really enjoy nature without seeing a lot of people; deer, coyote, raccoons and other creatures amble across the property all day and night. The roads and the driveway are cleared by a snow plow, so you won't be stuck in a large storm. There is a large deck to hang out on and enjoy the woods. A gas BBQ is available for outdoor grilling. Lots of extra chairs and tables available for large events. Dishes and tableware are of high quality. Please provide an accurate count of people in your group in your request and approximate ages. Once you book, we will require you to sign a rental agreement and provide the names of all adults in your group. We may also ask for a valid photo ID with name and address matching the person booking and paying for the rental. There is wireless Internet access throughout the house and on the decks with two Wi-Fi access points. This home is in a natural pine forest. There are many animals and insects here. Please note, spiders can, and do, get into the house. Though many people fear spiders, these mountain spiders rarely bite humans. The spiders can be easily picked up and tossed outdoors if one frightens you. We do not use any poisons or pesticides in our home. Ants also sometimes make their way indoors. There might be mosquitoes in late afternoon and early morning, typically small ones, certain times of year. There are also raccoons, deer, rattlesnakes (they hibernate during cold months), scorpions, California Black Bears, mountain lions (rare), mice, squirrels (everywhere), coyotes, foxes, weasels, badgers (rare), lots of birds including woodpeckers (rat-a-tat-tat-tat on trees), starlings, jays. In certain seasons watch for dripping pine sap (sticky!), pine pollen (yellow " dust" on everything), pine cones (and, yes, squirrels sometimes throw them on your heads!), ice and icicles, snow and snow drifts, and of course when hiking watch for lightening storms and beware of cliffs and rushing water. No refunds for "pests" such as these (also, we do not charge extra for wild animal sightings!) We do NOT permit tents and camping on the property. There are fee-based campgrounds (improved, with bathrooms) and free camping (unimproved, no bathrooms) in the National Forest nearby. We also don't permit campers/RVs to be used on the property as this is prohibited by the CCRs in our neighborhood. We can direct you to where you are allowed to have campers. Note we have cameras outside the home and noise detectors inside and out (checking for sound db LEVEL only.) These devices may be checked to make sure the number of cars and people match the number who booked, and that the noise level is not excessive for the neighborhood. We strongly recommend that you purchase rental insurance to protect your trip if you are worried about losing funds due to travel issues, illness striking any members of your group, or weather-related concerns. We cannot afford to be your insurance policy and still keep our prices low. Guest access You will have the house to yourselves. The check in process is no contact. If you request it, we can have someone come to show you around the house and how to use appliances (though they are all fairly standard and not hard to figure out.) The house is in the woods and there are acres of hiking trails around the house. Within a few miles is Shaver Lake for boating and swimming. The small town is close by for shopping and eating out. China Peak Ski resort is a short drive for skiing and snowboarding. Within the small town of Shaver Lake there are stores and restaurants. Other things to note No campfires are permitted, due to high fire danger. Easy to get to, the house is about 40 miles from Fresno along good roads and highways. WIthin a few miles of Shaver Lake, there are also plenty of other small and large lakes nearby, and miles and miles of hiking trails. What is expected of you while staying: be considerate of neighbors, keeping quiet during evenings and early mornings. Park in the driveway or garage. Treat the house and yard with respect; do not break things or spill on carpets, bedspreads, pool table, etc. SPECIAL NOTE: please clean the stove top AS YOU SPILL, so the food does not get baked onto it creating a mess that can't be cleaned. Let management know immediately if anything is amiss, such as broken furniture, stove not working, something found dirty in the house, etc. If there is a problem that needs fixing, let us know, don't wait until you are leaving to complain. We can't fix it if we don't know it is not working, and it isn't fair to leave us a bad review if you haven't given us the opportunity to make things right. We expect to be notified within hours of check in if you find a problem, or within hours of anything going wrong, so we can send someone to fix the issue. What you are expected to do before you leave: just basic clean. Please wash all your dishes (and put them away if you have time.) Place your trash in the bins in the garage. Bring the bins out to the street for pickup by 9am Monday, if you are there that day (or, if you prefer, let us know and we will do it.) Pick up your cigarette butts in the yard. Bring with you: --beach towels --your own preferred soaps, shampoo --your own paper goods such as napkins --your snow play equipment (sleds, snowboards, etc.) in the winter, snow chains and sunscreen, floaties, etc. for the lake in the spring and summer What you will find at the house: --we have lots of pots and pans, a selection of spices, plenty of dishes, silverware, cups, coffee makers, toaster, can openers and the like --there is a high-end grill for those of you that like to do barbecuing and we supply unlimited propane --lots of pillows, blankets and comforters are available This neighborhood is very low crime, but we do have security cameras in the front of the house, looking at the driveway and street, and at the back (to make sure that no fires are being started.) Because the area is mostly vacation homes, some thieves has found them easy prey; the security cameras discourage them from trying. There are no cameras anywhere else on the property, none within the house or garage.
