House This house dates to the days when the Space Coast engineers needed lodging while working on generating the technology and equipment for launches. It is a family friendly home, with three bedrooms at one end of the house and the Master Suite at the other end of the house. The King Suite has an en-suite shower, sink and toilet, as well as its own TV. Travelers using the Queen bedroom, the Double bedroom and second King bedroom will utilize the bathtub, sinks and toilet in the adjacent hallway bathroom. We’ve provided layers of blankets. Surf The Longboard House at 101 5th Avenue has high quality body boards, suntan lotions, and swim suits. Hit the surf at the Avenue B Beach, just 4 minutes’ drive from the house. Sometimes the waves are high, or there is too much riptide. Or some guests may prefer quieter waters. In this case, I’d recommend going for a calmer ocean experience. Drive to Sebastian Inlet State Park, 17 miles South to 9700 Hwy A1A, Melbourne Beach Fl. Some of the best surfing and fishing in the State of Florida. Juvenile sea turtles graze on the grasses here. There is also a shop for hot brats, burgers or a cold drink. Space If Space is more in line with your explorations, you cannot go wrong with the Kennedy Space Center, 26 miles to the North. Open from 9 to 6 every day, this massive complex has historic spacecraft, the Apollo Saturn V Center, and the US Astronaut Hall of Fame. You could spend the better part of an afternoon here. Swim and Surf Shopping Ron Jon Surf Shop at 4151 N Atlantic Avenue in Cocoa Beach is between the Kennedy Space Center and Melbourne Beach, a 33 minutes drive from our house. It is a sight to behold, with rows of surf boards and aisle of bikinis or swim trunks, sunglasses, sunscreens and many other bits of memorabilia. Treasure To the South are the famous Treasure Coast beaches, to include the McClarty Treasure Museum where Spanish bullion was discovered from shipwrecked galleons. See Spanish “pieces of eight” coins and other artifacts inside, and watch as divers bring up treasure near the surf line. Walk Closer to Home, in cooler weather walk down to the Melbourne Pier, and see the size and location of early settler houses. Watch as fishermen haul in their catch from the Pier, or join in! Ten minutes walk South will bring you to the Pier, and subsequently the shops along Ocean Avenue. Groceries The Melbourne Supermarket has an incredible variety of sodas, which take up the better part of an aisle. In the back of this small grocery is a terrific pizzeria, turning out pizzas worthy of Italy. Grab the prime cuts of steak in this shop, and take back to grill. Publix grocery stores are in Indialantic to the North and in Melbourne Beach to the South. Local Dining Enjoy local dining establishments along Ocean Avenue, such as Djon’s Steak and Lobster House or Ocean 302 Bar and Grill. Across the Melbourne Causeway can be found Ichabod’s Dockside Bar and Grille, and some amazing views to go with your meal at the Chart House. Drive North along A1A for more casual dining selection. Host favorite is LongDogger's in Indialantic: the Grouper Reuben is amazing! Beaches Ample sandy beaches provide for sand castles, catching a tan, watching the launches from Cape Canaveral, metal detecting, strolling for exercise, surf fishing, surfing and the like. Paradise Beach and Indialantic Beaches have volleyball courts are full social types of beaches, whereas the beaches to the South are quieter. Sebastian Inlet State Park This jewel has a shallow lagoon in which the dolphins and manatees come in to check swimmers out (don’t touch them, please!) and because the water is shallow, it is perfect for little ones to toddle, or for reclining and enjoying the warm lapping water. A few steps away, in the shop near the beach, enjoy a cool drink or a burger and brats. People fish from a walkway under the causeway, and boats ride the waves while juvenile sea turtles eat sea grasses right below the path. This sweet spot is 25 min drive to the South. From 4 pm.
