A unique river retreat for relaxing and viewing wildlife. We are minutes from extensive trails and about an hour from Lassen Park. Our house has fragile and antique components and is not suited for pets, groups or children. If you are ok with quirky, imperfect, au natural and "wild" (possibility of snakes and spiders) we have your place! With windows along most of the east side, you will almost always have a view of the Sacramento River. This is not a cookie cutter house—please read listing. Our unique, Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home offers captivating views of China Rapids, the narrowest stretch of the Sacramento River, and features all of the comforts of home. Enjoy a beautiful sunrise from the master bedroom or the claw foot bathtub in the master bath. Light a fire in the living room wood stove and peruse our books. The property is frequented by abundant wildlife. We are pretty well secluded and "au naturel" means most windows are bare, sans shades. If this makes you nervous, or the occasional spiderweb, you might want to reconsider. We don't heavily spray for bugs here, nor heavily landscape, and with a large house, think "cabin feel", in the country you might find the dust and the cobwebs we missed. However, with over 250 excellent reviews, many dedicated repeat guests and being in the top 1% of homes we feel confident that this house is perfect for others out there...just not everyone. Thank you! Other things to note We live close and are very strict about large gatherings/ parties. You will want to drive slow anyway but it also shows respect for the other neighbors who also own and maintain the road. Thank you! **Quirks: as you will see by the number of large windows, the original owners did not want to have nature obscured. This includes no shades in the master bathroom. There are 2 shades in the master bedroom facing the neighbors' property (the only place somewhat close to civilization). If the idea of limited shades on the windows makes you uncomfortable you may not want to stay at our place. ** The rock bathroom shower apparatus needs to be handled with care. A guest was way too rough recently. It is European-made and hard to replace. Everything works fine. Just be gentle please 😊 We would have to tear out our custom rock and tile shower to replace it and we would rather not have to. Back section turns water on to the faucets. Front section adjusts hot and cold, and they are reversed. Please tell all your guests. Thanks! **plumbing is sensitive so please do not flush anything but waste and minimal toilet paper. **no coloring hair while at house **do not use facial cleaners or lotions with bleaching agents. We have had to replace pillowcases several times **rattlesnakes are not uncommon in our area in the spring and summer so you will want to always watch your step The wood stove in the living room is available to use during cold, rainy months but NOT the wood stove in the master bedroom. There is a Roku TV in the family room. We have coffee beans, a grinder and a standard coffee maker available as well as a Keurig. Other light breakfast foods can be found in the refrigerator and pantry. Depending on length of stay these items may not be enough for the whole stay. The bbq is a propane/charcoal combo. There are usage instructions in the inside back of the guest book. Please feel free to use if you are experienced/ responsible with a bbq. Guests are allowed only two vehicles at the property. We live nearby and can see the traffic going in and out and the rates of speed. All guests need to drive slow on the private road.
