Description
Escape to the forested mountain serenity at Muir Intentions, a 2 bed/1 bath cabin with modern comforts surrounded by ~8 private acres at the base of Saddleback Mountain. Reconnect with those you love while in this open, sunny, and peaceful cabin. Recharge on the screened in porch, fish the nearby South River, adventure out to the nearby Shenandoah National Park, try a local winery or brewery, test your golf skills at the local golf course or relax by an indoor or outdoor fire (wood provided). The space Muir Intentions got its name by a play on words of pure intentions and John Muir’s philosophy of connecting, enjoying, and taking care of nature. Our family is happiest when we are one with nature and our “intentions” when buying this cabin in 2020 was to enjoy being outdoors and connecting with those we love. We had Muir Intentions with this cabin and we hope you enjoy nature here as well. Experience the beauty Virginia has to offer by visiting Skyline Drive and The Shenandoah National Park, both minutes away. Take a day trip to a several wineries and breweries, enjoy some fishing, hit some golf balls at the local course, horseback ride at Skyland Stables, or head to Massanutten Ski Resort to ski, snowboard, tube, or enjoy the indoor and/or outdoor water parks. The property and porch are lovely just to hang around a fire for s'mores or under the porch fan for some chatting if you are looking for something more low key. The cabin is 103 miles from Washington D.C., 91 miles from Richmond, 65 miles from Fredericksburg and 32 miles from Harrisonburg. We are 9 miles from the Swift Run Gap Entrance Station into the Shenandoah National Park, 6 miles from downtown Stanardsville, 22 miles from Massanutten Ski Resort/Water Park, and 31 miles to Charlottesville. Cabin Details: As you enter the cabin enjoy the light and bright open floor plan living space. The kitchen is well equipped so you can prepare meals easily. From a drink station with a Keurig machine and provided coffee and tea to dishes, food storage containers, toaster oven, microwave, paper towels, and trash bags, your kitchen needs will be met. Eat at the comfy table with seating for 6 and a second table with 2 more chair or sit peacefully in the open family room to enjoy the wooded view or sink into the cozy couches to enjoy the warmth and comfort of a wood stove in the cooler months. Rest or read on the large screened in porch with an outdoor fan and twinkle lights to enjoy the forest and creek sounds with beautiful views. The main bedroom has private wooded views, a view of the sunrise if the darkening curtains are open, a queen bed and twin bunk beds all with cozy blankets, pillows, quilts, and sheets. The second bedroom has a full bed with comfy pillows, blankets, a quilt, and sheets. The couch has a pullout queen size bed with a cozy blanket, pillows, quilt, and sheets. It is a pull-out couch bed, but it is comfortable! PLEASE NOTE: there are NO WINDOW COVERINGS in the main living area, but if you would like to fit more people in the cabin, the pull-out couch can be used upon request. The full bathroom with a clawfoot tub allows you to slip into true relaxation or use as a shower. We provide fresh clean towels, soap, toilet paper, and a hair dryer. Please note that the clawfoot tub is tall, so we have added grab bars for help in and out of the tub. For entertainment the cabin has a TV (NO CABLE) with a DVD player and DVDs for children and adults, books for children and adults, and some games for the whole family. The TV is set up for a DVD player use only since there is NO CABLE OR WIFI provided. Enjoy a movie from our DVD selection or bring your family's favorites. We encourage guests to unplug and enjoy our quiet natural surroundings, so we do NOT provide WiFi. Most phone providers will work here for phone calls and texts, but you will most likely not be able to stream or browse the web easily. However, it has become stronger over the past year. Get out and enjoy the Shenandoah; it is a national treasure or take time to relax on the screened in porch or deck listening to the forest, river, and creek under a light, fan, and twinkle lights. If you are looking for a place with hustle and bustle, this might not be the place for you. If you are looking to escape busy daily life, be surrounded by nature, and connect with those around you, this is right where you need to be! When using the wood stove, please follow the guide book to make sure you have a safe fire. No pets. No smoking. We prefer no shoes in the cabin, but please definitely remove them if they are dirty. Enjoy hunting and fishing, but please leave super dirty things outdoors and clean up anything that might be tracked in with you after these adventures. Please use the black makeup removing towels to make sure our white towels stay pristine. We are on a well and septic. DO NOT FLUSH anything other than septic safe toilet tissue down the toilet. All sanitary supplies, paper towels, and ANY PRODUCT OTHER THAN septic safe toilet paper CANNOT go into the toilet or down the drain. Please enjoy the things in the cabin, take good care of them, and return them back to their location for others to enjoy. Please respect things inside and outside the cabin. Use coasters, clean up spills, and take care of the cabin so it can stay in good condition to enjoy. Treat the plants and animals with kindness. Accidents happen, but please report them so we can make sure things are up to standards at the cabin. Weather is unpredictable near the mountains at times. We do not offer weather related refunds, but will absolutely work to get you rescheduled free of charge if there is a weather event. To ensure you enjoy a carefree stay, we are available 7 days a week to answer any questions you may have or to resolve any issues that may arise. Additional Things to Know: As a family of five we have enjoyed being short term renters for years and preferred having multiple bedrooms and a kitchen. We enjoy having our own cabin and renting to others to enjoy. We are very detail oriented and strive to provide a relaxing and enjoyable stay. We are constantly updating and improving our space and appreciate feedback on what you might need. You provide your own food and comforts from home and we will take care of everything else! We truly enjoy 5-star reviews. If there is something you do not like or something is not quite right while here, we kindly request quality communication and for you to let us know so we can work with you for a resolution. Renting with children? Some considerations you will want to take into account when deciding if this is the right location for you include: bunk beds, wood burning stove, clawfoot tub, screened in porch and deck, and bedrooms are split between the left and right sides of the cabin. Due to the health concerns for our guests, we are taking extra care to follow Airbnb's 5 Step Enhanced Cleaning Process to do thing such as disinfect frequently touched surfaces between reservations. Our cleaners are masked and gloved while in the cabin. The cabin has an uphill driveway with rocks along the way and may be more suitable for AWD or 4WD when wet or snowy. Sports cars or low clearance vehicles might find the road and hilly driveway a little challenging, but most people haven't had any problems. When parking, we suggest pulling straight up the hill to the right of the pine tree and backing up towards the screen porch for easy unloading and heading back down the driveway. We are a private cabin in the woods surround by woods. This means critters and creatures can be around. We do our best to control the bugs or other forest friends, but this is a cabin and sometimes they like to come for a visit. Please do your part to help in this by keeping food stored in the storage containers and bags provided, cleaning up spills, and following the cabin rules. We do NOT provide WiFi. Please do NOT expect to have perfect WiFi on your cell phones in the mountains. It is most likely not nearly as fast as you are used to and is probably not fast enough to stream live TV or videos, so please enjoy the provided DVDs or bring some of your own favorites. In the past year, it has improved and in places we have been able to stream non-live entertainment. We hope you step away from being connected and enjoy the outdoors, peace and quiet, and a different pace of life at Muir Intentions. The area where the cabin is located is out of downtown, Stanardsville. There are small grocery stores and convenience stores within the area (about 6.5 miles away), but it is about a 20 minute drive to the Ruckersville Wal-Mart or ABC store, so make sure to get everything you need before you head to the cabin to avoid a late night trip. We have multiple mini split systems (heating and air conditioning-each bedroom and main area has their own controls) for the cabin to adjust to your comfort wherever you are. There is a ceiling fan in the main bedroom, kitchen, dining room, and screened porch as well as a tower fan in the 2nd bedroom. Cool mountain air nights in warmer weather and a wood stove in cooler weather usually makes for comfortable days and nights no matter the season between all of these comfort options. The kitchen has a smaller oven/stove and fridge. They work great and we find it is enough for our time in the cabin, but please note that the oven can only accommodate a standard cookie sheet sideways. This means that it can fit most medium sized or smaller pizzas. The bathroom has a shower/soaker tub combination. Use the surround shower curtain for a shower and pull it back for a good soak. Please be cognizant of closing shower curtains completely and cleaning up water that escapes out of the tub. Occasionally appliances & equipment can malfunction. We will service and restore these amenities as quickly as we can. We ask that you follow all guidelines & policies regarding use of amenities in order to keep them functioning at peak efficiency.
