Stay in our cheery 30+day rental, the location can't be beat! It is a quick stride to the Nauvoo Temple. Head west to the Nauvoo Historical Sites, Visitor Center, Sunset on the Mississippi," The Nauvoo Pageant and Fair," and to the Catholic & LDS Churches. Stroll downtown, to the post office, public library, pharmacy, restaurants, gift shops, quilt shop and Fudge Factory. The Family Search Center is on the corner. The trails at Nauvoo State Park are on the south end of Bluff Street. The space Temple Hill Cottage is a 30+ day rental. We are located in a quiet residential area on 1/3 an acre. The Nauvoo Temple, Family History Center, Arrival Center, and Catholic Chapel and rectory are our neighbors. You will find the view of the Temple from our completely new kitchen inspiring. Period furniture will take you back in time while the modern conveniences of a recent major renovation will make your stay comfortable. The Cottage was built with Nauvoo brick in 1843 by Dr. Samuel Bennett as a medical office and later WW Rust had a boot shop and sold Native American medicines and cures here. In circa 1850, a 3-story addition was built using original Nauvoo Temple stone. We have taken care to leave the history in the house, by using the original doors, and trim. Our upstairs hallway wood floor is one of the few homes in Nauvoo with original flooring from the Wisconsin Pineries. The Cottage has been lived in and cared for by citizens of Nauvoo for over 180 years. One of the previous owners made his fortune in the California Gold Rush, another owner was a local banker who was instrumental in helping The Church of Latter-day Saints secure the first piece of property on which the Nauvoo Temple was built. Past guests have used our home as a "hub" to venture off to other historic sites, Kirtland, OH, Palmyra, NY, the Lincoln Museum in Springfield, IL, Chicago, St. Louis, Shipshewana, IN, Amish country, wherever your heart leads. Some guests have enjoyed having the temple so close and others have received extra help researching their family ancestral lines in the Nauvoo Family History Center. The cottage is supplied with a few days worth of body soap, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels and trash bags. Our cottage is not baby or toddler proofed. Be pro-active and locate any potential hazards when you first check-in. Guest access A code for entry will be provided at receipt of payment and the day of check in. Other things to note Possible home inspection before check out. Free parking for one car off road in front of house (other space for studio) and additional space in front of historic garage off Young Street. This home has a studio apartment in the basement. The studio guest does not have access to the main house.
