Welcome to the comfort and peace of the cabin, where you can sit in front of the wood stove on a chilly evening or enjoy the summer breeze on the deck overlooking the Wind River. Come to fish on a quarter mile of private water, to write, or just to celebrate life. Kids can swing on the tire or cast for their first fish. Horseback rides and waterfall hikes are right down the road. We share the quiet pleasure of watching deer, geese and bunnies wandering past. The cabin has all of the amenities-a fully stocked kitchen for cooking, with seasonings, coffee, dishes, pots & pans. The laundry room has detergent. The fire pit has wood. And one grill has charcoal & lighter fluid. The other grill is electric. There are even skewers for s’mores. Here is the layout of the cabin: a master bedroom with queen bed and an en-suite bathroom with shower. An IKEA full sofa/bed in the kitchen topped with an additional mattress when needed. A queen sofa/bed in the TV room topped with a real queen mattress as well. Please note that there is only 1 bathroom and the entrance is through the bedroom. We try to stick to 100% cotton linens and fragrance-free chemicals in cleaning. The scent of the pine trees and sage are lovely enough. Of course, there is Yellowstone for day trips. As well as the glitzy town of Jackson for its restaurants and shopping. Each are roughly an hour and 45 minutes from the cabin. But there is so much more right around here. We have lots and lots of repeat guests. A number of them come a few times and then decide to make Dubois their home. In fact, that is exactly what your hosts did those many years ago. A big, marshmallow-roasting fire pit and a gazebo on the banks of the river are exclusive to guests in the cabin. We are not fishing guides, but since we fly fish most days, are available to share what is working for us. My husband welcomes fishing conversations and I, myself, am full of suggestions. But only if you ask. We live across the driveway (about 150 yards)and are ready to help when needed. Or not! The cabin is an oasis of nature five minutes from downtown Dubois. Families of Canada Geese raise their young in the yard and pasture next door. Bald Eagles, Sandhill Cranes, foxes and the multitude of deer roam the yard and the river out front. Petroglyphs, hiking, fishing and mountain walks are within 10 miles. Yellowstone and Grand Teton are a day trip, as is Jackson Hole, the glitzy cowboy Mecca. Cross-country bicyclers stop for the night in town, as well as current day cowboys, wetting their palate after a long day running horses. Dubois is a taste of the old west. Lots of bicyclers here, whether transiting the Continental Divide or riding the trans-continental route. There are bikes for rent at the local hardware store in town, but most people find driving to be the easiest way to get access to those out of the way places. The Cowboy Cabin is less than 2 miles from the center of town, 50 minutes from Grand Teton National Park and another 50 minute, through GTNP to Yellowstone. the town itself is surrounded by public land, great for hiking and wild game viewing. For hunters: we are in antelope hunt area #84, mule deer area #128, and elk hunt areas 67 & 68. We have pastures for your horses as well.
