Lady and the Lake

Description

Lady and the Lake The space You’ve earned this vacation, and you couldn’t have chosen a sweeter spot than this family- and dog-friendly waterfront retreat on Estes Lake. Outside, you’ll find lots of comfortable spaces for enjoying the lovely lake views – start the day with coffee on the waterfront deck or the brick patio down below. Take your time – you’re on vacation. When you get hungry, head inside to make some breakfast. Windows throughout offer the same gorgeous view, and the open, bright space creates a feeling of togetherness. The full, well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to whip up a meal, and you can dine together at the window-front table for six. Now it’s time to explore, and no matter what time of year you visit, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Warm weather offers fishing, boating, hiking, local farm stands, and exploration of the nearby Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. Autumn leaf peeping in this heavily forested area can’t be beat, and in the winter, bring your cold-weather gear, because ice fishing, snowmobiling, and ice skating abound. Kennebunkport is less than 15 miles away and you'll find downtown Sanford only five minutes west, with great restaurants and shops to check out. Plan a trip to spend an afternoon at Wells Beach, just 14 miles away. When you return, let the kids splash around on the small, sandy beach area while you fire up the gas grill. Have dinner alfresco at the picnic table, then stream your favorite shows while the electric fireplace keeps things cozy. End the night back outside around the fire pit, roasting marshmallows and telling stories about the perfect day you just had – and planning for another one tomorrow. THINGS TO KNOW Streaming services are available using your own account. Guest access You'll enter through a deadbolt electronic lock. Enter your 10-digit code - the Schlage button will flash green, and after 3 seconds the mechanism will disengage. Turn the deadbolt away from the doorframe to unlock. To lock the home, press the Schlage button and turn the deadbolt back toward the frame. Standard check-in is 4pm and checkout is 10am. During peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), early check-in is not available. Outside peak season, if early check-in or late checkout (for a fee) is available, you'll receive an email or text with the offer - otherwise standard times apply. If you have trouble with the lock after three unsuccessful code attempts, the system will reset after 30 seconds. For true emergencies, there is a backup lockbox on the stair railing at the entrance - contact the local team for the lockbox code. Other things to note This lakefront home features 125 feet of waterfront with about 15 feet of sandy walk-in beach area. The natural Maine lake shoreline has fallen leaves, debris, and aquatic plants - EPA regulations prevent clearing it, but it's wonderful for kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, and fishing. A dock is available from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The main floor has central air conditioning, which is especially helpful May through September. The lower level stays cool from the main floor's AC and also has fans available throughout. An electric fireplace is in the living room - use the remote to operate it. A gas grill is available seasonally (May-September); please clean it after each use and turn off the propane tank. An outdoor fire pit is available seasonally as well. There are four smart TVs with Roku apps - one in each bedroom and one in the living room. You can log into your own streaming credentials; some free apps are also available. Internet service in the Southern Maine coastal area can go on and off, especially during storms - this is common in the region and typically resolves within an hour. If needed, rebooting the router and modem often helps. A washer and dryer are located in the closet of the lower level bathroom. The home has a backup generator that will automatically activate during a power outage. Every Saturday, the generator runs a brief test cycle - you may hear it for a few minutes, and that's normal. Localized outages during storms are not uncommon in this area; the local team monitors Central Maine Power's outage map and can provide updates during your stay. The septic system has a built-in alarm that sounds when the tank reaches about three-quarters full and needs pumping. If you hear it, press the red button in the utility room to silence it and notify the local team - they'll coordinate a pumping appointment. If the power goes out and the generator kicks on, it may trigger the alarm; just press the red button to reset it. Place trash in the outside barrels located behind the fence at the yard's edge. Pickup occurs once a week on Friday (subject to change). This property is in beautiful Southern Maine where insects and pests are part of the natural environment. Monthly pest control is typically maintained, but complete elimination is not guaranteed. Depending on the season, you may encounter mosquitoes, black flies, ticks, sand fleas, spiders, beetles, ants, no-see-ums, beach flies, deer flies, and houseflies. Please bri
