The park offers hiking, biking, fishing, boating, frisbee golf, playgrounds, BBQ pits, swimming (seasonal), a nature barn (seasonal), wildlife viewing and more! The ranch also provides excellent access to Sandhill Crane viewing areas such as Fort Kearny (15 minutes) and Rowe Sanctuary (25 minutes). During the famous spring crane migration cranes also frequently fly directly over the ranch and feed in the neighboring corn fields. The bunkhouse is located on an active working horse ranch allowing guest to enjoy the sights and sounds of a western style ranch amidst a lovely pastoral setting. Guests may observe the horses, but feeding, petting or otherwise interacting with any of the animals in an unsupervised manner is prohibited. Please note that a gate may have to be passed through (opened and closed again) in order to access the bunkhouse as the horses travel loose on property at certain times of the day. We apologize about the inconvenience, but ask you to join us in keeping horses where horses belong! Owners live on the property in the main ranch house and are usually available to assist if a need arises during your stay. We are located 1/8 mile from the entrance of Cottonmill Lake State Park which has lovely hiking and biking trails, frisbee golf, water access, boat and kayak rentals, a swimming beach (seasonal), picnic/BBQ areas and more. The University of Nebraska at Kearney is just East of the ranch. We are conveniently located just 5 miles off of I-80 and with all paved road access to the ranch. Central Kearney is less than 10 minutes away by car. Cottonmill Park nearby is the trailhead for the Kearney Hike/Bike Trail which is paved for 13.1 miles all the way to Fort Kearny State Recreation Area. Though guests will enjoy the quietness of a country setting and the beauty of pastoral landscapes, the ranch is still just minutes from town with food, gas, restaurant and shopping amenities within 5 - 10 minutes. The bunkhouse is accessed via a gravel road on the south side of the property which is accessed through an automatic gate with a code. Although we welcome children and infants please note that the home has not been baby-proofed, though we do now provide some baby travel essentials for guests use. As noted elsewhere in this listing, horses do occasionally travel on the road between pastures and children should not be left unattended outside or around the horse pens or water canal. There are security cameras throughout the ranch, but please note there are no cameras near the bunkhouse or RV sites to respect the privacy of our guests.
