It's an ideal venue for events such as weddings, professional reunions, and large family and friends gatherings (wild parties and proms are strictly prohibited and subject to immediate removal) The 'Nathaniel Clarke House' was built in the late 1700s by 4th generation descendants of Thomas Clarke. This large Homestead remains an elegant emissary from the age of our ForeFathers and Founders. NOTE: the attached barns seen in the pictures are reserved for the owner's and maintenance employees' personal use. Enormous sugar maple trees shade the large back lawn of the property, which overlooks the Oyster River and tidal marshland. The front lawn is set back from Boston Post Road. The home has 5 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms, and provides accommodations for up to 14 guests. This beautifully decorated home boasts a wrap-around porch, and a nice flowered yard (during the flowers season) and was featured on the HGTV Design channel before being selected for the shooting of the award-winning film "The Word," in 2012. You’ll be near sandy beaches along the Long Island Sound for some fun in the sand and surf. Harvey's Beach and Town Beach are available for public use and offer clean facilities. Old Saybrook is the hometown of many celebrities, where you can see Katherine Hepburn's mansion. Take a ride with the vintage Essex steam train for the foliage spectacular views on the Connecticut River, ending with a boat ride on a vintage steamship. For additional shopping, Westbrook and Clinton offer large shopping outlets just 10 minutes away. This property is approx.. 2 hours to Boston or NYC by car along I-95, where you can wander the bustling cities as you shop, site see, and dine. Key Residence Features: Amenities include a fully equipped kitchen, an outdoor grill for BBQ, and a cozy outdoor seating area for nice conversations around a firepit. Books, coffee grinder, coffee maker, washer and dryer, DVD player, gas grill, hair dryer, and wireless internet access. IMPORTANT NOTICE: AC is not provided when the temperature is below 55 at night and 70 during the day. Old Saybrook is one of the oldest towns in CT, with a history dating back to 1635 when it began as an independent colony known as the Saybrook Plantation. The colony was started when a company of English Puritans headed by Viscount Saye and Sele and Lord Brook, and led by one John Wintrhop, Jr. erected a fort to guard the river entrance. ~ Old Saybrook offers beautiful shores, vistas, marinas and an eclectic collection of shops, restaurants and historic buildings on Main Street and nearby. There are also two public beaches and several parks within the town, and a mini-golf course at Saybrook Point, operated and maintained by the Parks & Recreation department.
