The Hickory House

Quaint vintage, eclectic bungalow on brick street with private parking. Wifi, comfortable common spaces, a stocked kitchen, quality beds & linens. Home is situated only blocks from Ottawa University and downtown. University parents can easily walk to campus, downtown restaurants and shopping, and City Park. This was once my grandmothers home. The vintage décor leans towards " eclectic". The house has refinished floors, all new paint, plumbing, electrical and HVAC. No pets allowed. The space This is a small, cozy 2+bedroom, one bathroom home. Most all decor and furnishings are "picked" from various locations. Mattresses, bath linens and living room couch and chair were purchased new. The west bedroom has a sun room (please see photos) that features a daybed with a trundle. This is a great bedroom for children. A heavy curtain adds privacy for separation. The front porch has a table and chairs so that you can enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktail outdoors. Backyard has a charcoal grill, picnic table, small seating area and flower garden. This 1 block area has houses on only one side of the brick street with several families that have small children playing. A great play/walk park is only one block north. Flint Hills Trail is only two blocks west and downtown shopping and restaurants are an easy walk north. Back porch provides secure storage for bicycles. All linens are laundered with sanitizing procedures and home is cleaned thoroughly with anti bacterial/viral products after each guest. Guest access Guests have access to all main level rooms pictured, front and back porch. Yard work and gardening is ongoing and I do have to come on the property for outside maintenance. Basement and garage also house most of my tools and equipment for all of my housing projects and are private. We will always call or knock to make you aware of comings and goings by host and never enter your space without your permission. Other things to note Extra bed and bath linens as well as pillows and lap robes are stored in each bedroom. Also in west bedroom closet you can find extra chairs for guests and old vintage TV trays for your use. East closet has iron, ironing board and clothes steamer. There are vintage hangars and luggage racks in each bedroom. Bathroom is stocked with extra toilet paper in lower cabinet, hair dryer and various hot tools as well as a large basket of amenities you may have forgotten. There is also a basket of baby needs. First aide supplies are in top bathroom cabinet. TV console is home to games, fun things and couch blankets. Outdoor games are stored on open shelving on back porch. Any cleaning supplies you may need are under kitchen sink. Extra trash bags are located in one of the bottom drawers in kitchen. A new "guide" book of local businesses and attractions is in the works.
