I'm in a 6-year NEW passive solar home on 1.6 acres of south-facing land, .9 mile from a main road to town, and long-range views of mountains. Guest room has its own bathroom & shower. Enjoy living, dining, kitchen & deck. NO COOKING ANIMAL PRODUCTS. No shoes in the house. *10% discount for more than 1-night stay.* $10 surcharge for 2 guests using 2 beds. *IMPORTANT: READ OTHER DETAILS TO NOTE.* I rarely check email between 10 pm and 8 am. The space The house was built by a master craftsman with an eye for detail. And it shows. I've furnished it with simplicity and comfort in mind. It's warm and cozy. With cross-ventilation everywhere, it's pleasant in the summertime as well. There's almost always a breeze. The large windows light up the rooms, while a skylight adds more light to the living room. In this time of turmoil, I invite you to treat yourself to a getaway in my peaceful home. It's truly a sanctuary. Guest access Guests are welcome to share living room, dining room, deck and kitchen. These are all adjacent to the guest bedroom and private bath. Please let me know in advance if you'll be using the kitchen to prepare meals. If needed, the laundry room may also be used by guests. Note: all of the doorways in the house are wide enough to accommodate wheel chairs. Other than three steps coming up to the front deck, there are no stairs inside the house. During your stay My favorite part of being an AIrbnb host is that I've met wonderful people, and have had great interactions. Depending on my schedule, I may or may not be around to visit. Sometimes I'm away, although not too often. When I'm here, I am at your service to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Other things to note I share my home with a gentle loving cat. He is NOT allowed in the guest quarters. If you're mildly allergic, you should be OK, as he can be kept at the other end of the house. If you're likely to have an asthmatic attack, you might want to make other arrangements. He is also an indoor cat at this time. OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE: when you open the outside door, BE CERTAIN THAT THE INSIDE DOOR OF THE ENTRYWAY IS CLOSED! If you open the door to the back deck, please close it quickly. Keep in mind that I am a professional musician; so don't be too surprised if you hear flute sounds coming from down the hall in my studio. I am also a yoga practitioner and teacher since the 70's, and a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner (energy healer) since 2000. If guests would like to create a retreat experience in my home, I am available to offer guidance in these areas. There would be extra fees involved. I am also training to become an animal telepath, and am offering consultations by phone to consider issues you may be having with your 4-legged friends (or 2-legged and feathered.) Some important matters to keep in mind: I have set my reservation preferences. Please check them. The more time I'm given between booking and arrival, the better I can serve you. AT THIS TIME I AM NOT ACCEPTING GUESTS ON LESS THAN EIGHT HOURS' NOTICE. The arrival and departure times are preferences, and are negotiable. The key is COMMUNICATION. If you are unable to arrive by 8 pm, let me know. It may be that I will also be out until later, and a later arrival could work out. Self check-in arrivals are also welcome. Sometimes I'm on top of a mountain, hiking or skiing. Just let me know, and I'll be sure to provide directions. I can accommodate 3 guests with a double bed (NOT queen) and a single. THE DOUBLE BED IS TOPPED OFF BY A MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS. For a third person, I can bring out a rollaway bed. There is an additional charge of $25/night for the third guest. **I offer a 10% discount for stays longer than one night.** Two guests who use two beds are charged an additional $10. Please be prepared to pay in cash upon arrival. I don't have a smartphone! Only a dumb phone. Please do NOT text me. You are always welcome to call or email. If you get the answering machine, PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE, so that I'll know that you called. My home is a TV AND MICROWAVE-FREE ENVIRONMENT. I do have a great toaster oven and gas stove. I also have a coffee maker and filters. Please note: not being a coffee drinker, I don't know diddly-squat about the grounds. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN. Winter driving: Boone is in the mountains, at an altitude of 3000 feet. If you do not have all-wheel drive and/or all-season tires, and are not accustomed to driving in snow, please check Rays Weather website for Boone. Keep in mind that I am at the east side of the county, near the Blue Ridge escarpment, where snowfall is significantly lower than other parts of the area. If in doubt, (Ray isn't always right!), please call me for a forecast. A great feature of my energy-efficient home is insulating panels with R values of 16. They keep warm air in and cold air out. In the summer, they work in reverse, keeping hot afternoon air out, while providing a cool interior. Please be aware that the AC I provide is a Mitsubishi Mini-split that is installed in the living room. It cools the living, dining and kitchen areas. However, since the doors to the guest quarters must remain closed, (cf. cat issue), it does not cool the guest quarters. Opening windows in the bedroom and adjoining bathroom while keeping the door between them open, provides a delightful breeze, along with a powerful fan that further circulates the cool fresh air from outside. Here in the mountains, it always cools off at night.
