Stylish 1924 family home with chef's kitchen
Description
LIVE LIKE A LOCAL! You'll feel like you stepped into a Norman Rockwell painting in this charming Shaker Heights neighborhood. This updated historic home is perfect for families and friends traveling together--we often host guests visiting for weddings, holidays & sporting events. 5 min walk to public transit. Close to Cleveland Clinic, Case Western U & John Carroll U. The space Before we begin, here are a few things to consider… 3 THINGS PEOPLE LOVE ABOUT THIS HOME: (1)THE LOCATION – We live in a picturesque neighborhood, where every house is different & has character. Most homes in this area were built in the 1910s & 1920s, during Cleveland's golden era. Public transportation is only a 5 min walk away, and the main campus of Cleveland Clinic is a 15 min drive, as well. It's only a 10 min drive to John Carroll University & 15 min drive to Case Western Reserve University. (2) THE KITCHEN – The kitchen was renovated in 2014 to reflect an open-concept style -- perfect for cooking & entertaining. (3) THE CHARACTER – This home has many original design touches, including everyone's favorite, the stained-glass front door. 4 THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BOOKING WITH ME: (1)FAMILY-ORIENTED NEIGHBORHOOD - This is a friendly community, where everyone knows their neighbors and where families often gather on front lawns to chat. This is not a listing that's appropriate for events or parties, beyond the friendly family gathering (and for that, it's perfect). We request quiet after 10 pm, out of respect for our neighbors. (2)THIS HISTORIC HOME WAS BUILT IN 1924 – Although this home has been updated, keep in mind that the home itself is almost 100 years old. This means you can expect the typical characteristics of an older home (creaky stairs, radiators, doors that occasionally stick, etc.). Of course many guests love these types of quirks & believe they give an older home its “character," but it's just something to be aware of. (3)THIS HOME HAS 4 FLOORS – As with most homes in this historic neighborhood, this house features 3 main floors and a partially finished basement. Most of the “living” happens on the ground floor and the 2nd floor, but one bedroom is on the top floor. (4) NO SMOKING - We allow absolutely no smoking inside the house. If you cannot abide by this rule, please book another listing. The ground floor includes the entryway, kitchen, living room, dining room, breakfast nook, and 1 bedroom with attached half-bath. The bright & airy chef’s kitchen was fully renovated in 2014. It features a gas stove with architectural hood, double oven, granite countertops, super-quiet dishwasher, built-in refrigerator with water/ice dispenser, custom wine bar with Carrera marble backsplash, glass subway tiles, and coffee/tea bar with a traditional coffeepot, Keurig coffee maker, teapot and French press. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need to cook, including pots/pans, skillets, dishes, silverware, stemware, juicer, toaster, mixing bowls, cooking utensils, slow cooker, blender, and more. The kitchen opens to an eat-in bar with 2 stools, as well as a breakfast nook with kitchen table & 4 chairs. The living room has a red suede pull-out couch with hide-a-bed that sleeps 2. The flat screen TV is connected to AppleTV, Netflix, iTunes, Films-on-Demand, and YouTube, as well as other premium channels and a few local channels (no cable). There is also a DVD player & Wii, and many DVD movies available for your use. This home features high-speed wireless internet access. The dining room table seats 6 (or 8 with leaf inserts), the kitchen table seats 4, and the bar seats 2. The 2nd floor includes the master bedroom with queen bed (you'll enjoy sleeping on a brand-new Casper mattress!) & en suite bathroom with rainforest shower, 2nd bedroom with queen bed (comfy pillow-top mattress), 2nd full bathroom with shower/tub, and office with desk & reading nook. The 3rd (top) floor is a large, private loft-style bedroom with queen Pottery Barn sleigh bed and comfy mattress. The partially finished basement features a playroom, iron/ironing board, and a full-size washer/dryer, all of which guests are welcome to use. The private backyard, surrounded by trees, features a stone patio with furniture (seats 7). Perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or stargazing at night. Guest access Guests are welcome to use all spaces in the home, except there is a private office on the 2nd floor reserved for owner use. Also, the unfinished part of the basement is reserved for owner use/storage, except guests are more than welcome to use the full-size washer/dryer & the iron/ironing board. Other things to note PARKING: You’ll find plenty of parking for several cars in the extended driveway with garage. There is room to park 1 vehicle in the garage, and you are welcome to use it. The city of Shaker Heights allows parking on the street during the daytime, but no street parking is permitted between 2-6 am. AIR CONDITIONING: If you are visiting us in the summertime, please note that this home does NOT have central air conditioning (and neither do most of the historic homes in this neighborhood). However, we do have window A/C units in all the bedrooms and in the living room, as well as ceiling fans and standing floor fans. Typically air conditioning is not needed in Cleveland except in June, July and August. TV: We do not have cable TV, but we do have two large flat-screen TVs with Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Netflix, Hulu and an antenna that streams several local channels. TUB/SHOWER RAILS: This home does NOT have grab rails in the bathtub/showers. The large rainforest shower does have a bench, but if the grab rails in particular are important to you, you might consider booking another listing. PETS: We do have a golden retriever (who will NOT be at the house during your stay), but if someone in your party is very allergic, this might be something to consider when booking.
