Welcome the quaint mountain town of Nederland! 8,400 feet in elevation but only 25 minutes from Boulder. Enjoy this spacious log home with an abundance of amenities, beautiful views, and cozy nooks. The chalet also has several outdoor spaces to enjoy the clean air and brilliant blue skies. Ski at the Eldora Ski Resort, hike/snowshoe in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, and check out the town of Nederland with its assortment of restaurants, shops, and bars! The top floor has two bedrooms, a full bath, and an office/desk area. Each bedroom has a queen bed and a futon. There are a total of 4 futons in the house that can be set up as additional beds upon request. 6 adults are allowed and we do not have a limit on the number of children (under 18). The middle floor has the master bedroom with a private bath. The hot tub is located just outside a door off of this space. There is a half-bath in the hallway connecting to the kitchen, dining and living room area. That space has a vaulted ceiling and upper access to the atrium along with a deck outside with a BBQ grill. There are several seating areas with spectacular views out of large windows. For entertainment that floor has a big screen tv and a stereo turn table with a large selection of albums for your enjoyment! The entrance is on the lower level. It has a tall gaming table perfect for board games, cards, or dominos. There is a wood-burning stove in a seating area with beautiful views. The pool table is on this level and that room also has a TV, bluetooth speaker, and Karaoke Machine! The house sits at the end of the neighborhood with trails directly into National Forest land. Hike from the house to Mud Lake or head on into Nederland! Guests have full access to the house except one locked basement office and 2 locked closets. No other people will access these area during your stay. Kirk uses the house as his personal residence and keeps his food in the downstairs refrigerator. Guests have the entire main kitchen refrigerator available for their use. Check in is via a keybox. You will receive the code on your day of check in. Reid is your in-town host and available to respond to any concerns. Please direct questions his way including those about the surrounding area. The neighborhood is tucked on a south facing hill (so, lots and lots of sunshine!) with national forest to the west and Boulder Valley School property to the north of the chalet. A trail at the end of the drive extends back onto national forest land for quick-short hikes. The Mud Lake area is very close to the chalet and is a great spot for small children to have an outdoor adventure. Another great place for anyone to hike is along the north side of the lake in town which offers a scenic, easy path. Other trailheads in the area will take you to mountain streams and even the Continental Divide - if you have the stamina! Nederland is a 4-square mile town with no stoplights and about 1,500 people surrounded by national forest. It boasts several stores displaying works of local artists, restaurants, coffee houses, bars, dispensaries, The Mountain People's Co-Op (health food), BnF Groceries, and The Carousel of Happiness! Boulder Creek runs through the middle of town with paths leading down to the park, lake, and Teen Center complete with a very cool skate park! The shared driveway can hold 2 cars. If you have a third car it can be parked on the street below the house. In the winter you will want to have an AWD vehicle in the mountains. Our streets and the driveway are plowed when it does snow but an AWD is highly recommended anytime between October and April. You can come here without a car by taking the Regional "NB" bus from Boulder. ("AB" from Denver International Airport to Boulder, then transfer). In summer months the house is a nice little hike to town and back - not recommended in the winter! Our host, Reid, will shuttle your bags to the house if you choose this way of travel! If you have an event down in the Boulder/Denver area and wish to use Rideshare services the issue is getting picked up from the chalet. There simply are not typically drivers available in the area. Most drivers will deliver you to the house from down below but don't count on getting any to pick you up! The neighborhood gets very quiet at night. We want our guests to have fun, relax and enjoy themselves... but we do ask that they be respectful of the neighbors and keep the volume down when outside late at night. The house itself holds sound well but in that still night air it really travels! Thank you for your understanding. We are located on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains... that means we get mountain winter weather which can bring heavy snowstorms. Our driveway is somewhat steep and you may have trouble getting up if your vehicle is a 2WD, has insufficient tires, or if you are not a skilled driver! Be aware that you may need to park at the base of the driveway and hike up to the house if we are experiencing one of the handful of major winter storms that affect this area. We make every effort to assist our guests - and have even shuttled guests and their luggage up the driveway when they come unprepared... but, please know yourself, your vehicle, and your driving skills before booking any vacation anywhere in these mountains! Our neighborhood and driveway are plowed but sometimes we have to wait as they are trying to assist many customers when these storms hit. But wow! How breathtakingly beautiful things are after one of these big dumps - well worth the hassle! You can take the RTD to Nederland but we do not have local Rideshare services. Your host, Reid, will assist you in getting to the house if you decide to come on the bus - just let him know you need help! In summer months you can definitely walk to town without much difficulty. Winter winds and ice make it less desirable...
