Description

Prytz House: A spacious Victorian shopkeep's manse above what was originally a dry goods store, midway between San Francisco and the Napa Valley. At approximately 3,250 square feet (300 m²), including 10 total rooms, a 500 square foot (50 m²) roof deck with a bay view, & a rose garden patio, there's plenty of space to stretch out, both inside and out. Many water views. Furnished largely with antique and vintage finds from the late 19th century to the middle 20th century, there's ample charm. The space All rooms have copious amounts of natural light. Many windows and some exterior spaces have water views of the bay (technically the Carquinez Strait or the San Pablo Bay depending on the view, but old timers still call it simple "The Bay"). The house is old, quirky, and full of character, and we've added all the modern amenities you'd expect. There are plenty of outlets and USB plugs for charging devices. Guests have full use of the driveway, which can easily fit 6 cars depending on vehicle size and parking skill level. It's large enough to easily park a full size passenger van with ease. In addition, street parking is free, unrestricted, and nearly always available. There is an adjacent lot with fruit trees, grape Vines, eucalyptus trees, and planter boxes filled with a variety of plants from lavender to olives. The landscaping around the place affords a good amount of privacy. There are 4 bedrooms, each with 2 beds, for a total of 8 beds. There is 1 bedroom on the main floor of the house and there are 3 bedrooms on the top floor. For more detail, please see bedroom/bed descriptions and the photos of the bedrooms, which are captioned with the corresponding bedroom. Access to main entrance to the house from the driveway involves a walkway up a small incline and a dozen or so stairs. Flexible self check is possible via a keypad on the front door. The neighborhood is generally very quiet. We tend to be very laid back, but we ask you respect quiet hours from 10:00PM until 8:00AM, especially when coming and going, so as to not disturb your neighbors. Anyone present in the house must be included in your guest count. If at any time there is more than the maximum number of allowed guests, this would qualify as an event rental. While hosting your event here is possible, they are booked differently, must be arranged in advance, and require you have special insurance. Guest access You'll have full use of the house, which includes 2 floors hosting a formal dining room, a sitting room, a drawing room, and a den with TV. There is a large roof deck with a water view off the well-equipped kitchen, and a patio and rose garden off of the den. House is accessed up the walkway to the right (west) of the house, up the green steps to the front porch. The front door has a keypad lock. There are several steps to sidewalk level from the driveway, then a moderately sloped walked with two more steps, and a dozen steps to get up to the front door. There are continuous handrails from the driveway to the front door. While we've had plenty of guest with minor to moderate mobility issues stay (joyfully :) in the past, we aim to be as transparent as possible here in order to avoid any surprises. Other things to note Common areas feature a large selection of vintage and antique books. Blazing fast fiber optic internet via Eero mesh network available throughout the house and outdoor areas. The den has a large screen hi def smart TV for streaming your favorite entertainment. There is also AppleTV, Blueray/DVD player, and a laserdisc player (along with a collection of discs). The kitchen has a 6-burner range with convection oven. The patio has a gas (propane) grill for outdoor cooking. While we're happy to accommodate whenever we're able, we may not be able to offer early checkins or late checkouts. You are welcome to book an extra day at either end of your stay if it's available. We have many amenities and some may require additional access on request; if you're not able to find or access what you're looking for, please reach out to us and we'll gladly assist (: It's generally quite comfortable in the house, but we have occasional hot spells. While the house doesn't have central A/C, there is a large portable rolling evaporative cooler for use, a blower fan, and several portable fans (as well as a ceiling fan in the den). Thankfully, our hot spells are infrequent & short-lived and there's generally a nice breeze coming in off the bay (:
