Other things to note **Please note: We want you to know that we have just completed a major river wall construction project. We will not be able to finish the landscaping of the yard around the new wall until spring/summer 2024. This in no way impacts the cottage, parking, or the back deck. We have put in a temporary walkway so you will still be able to walk to the river edge understanding that grass will not have had a chance to grow in. Please still use all the usual precautions around the water. We strive to keep our little piece of the river as natural as possible. In the spring and summer months guests should expect the normal river insect life to be evident. The insects in the area are not dangerous, normal backyard types that you would encounter in most places. One type that is completely harmless (but annoying) is the Caddisfly, locally known as "Sandfly". These insects are an important source of food for birds and fish, a vital part of a healthy ecosystem. Late spring and early summer is most favorable for a caddisfly "bloom", the hatching of adult caddisflies, which tend to swarm around outdoor lights. Some years there are many, some years not so many the problem is we never know exactly when or how many will arrive. The good news is caddisflies have a short life span of only a few days - even though, they can be a nuisance. We do not treat the lawn with chemical fertilizers and do not use any bug/pest insecticides on the trees, shrubs, or lawn. We think that the beauty of the river, the importance to the ecosystem, and a cozy cottage make up for a possible bit of annoyance these flying troublemakers may cause.
