You'll love the gorgeous Frying Pan Valley and the sound of the river from our lovely attached mother-in-law apartment, located on the lower level of our classic Colorado A-Frame with separate entrance and plenty of privacy. 1-BR, 1-bath with murphy bed in the kitchenette. Dogs welcome for $50 pet fee. Ali & Ryan Margo invite you to enjoy the private guest suite located in the lower level of their classic Colorado A-Frame in the scenic Frying Pan River Valley. Located just 24 miles north of Aspen and five miles from historic downtown Basalt, the famed gold medal waters of the Frying Pan River meander through dramatic red rock spires and steep mountain hillsides. This cozy 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment features a decent size bedroom/living area with queen size bed and large sofa with a queen size sleeper bed. The second room is a kitchenette with a super comfortable Murphy bed for extra guests. We are proud to offer our guests a Purple brand mattress and organic cotton bedding. The bathroom has a bathtub and shower and is stocked with basic necessities in case you forgot something. We provide a ton of clean linens and towels. Enjoy a large private deck surrounded by the steep forested hillside and lush terraced gardens that provide peace and privacy. The summer months can be buggy because of our close proximity to the river. We do provide cintronella candles but it's a good idea to bring bug spray. Wi-fi, cable TV, and furnished kitchenette provide all the comforts of home. We live upstairs with our young son Levi and two pugs Little Nell and Tallulah Belle, so you may hear us walking around, but there is no door connecting the two units and the lower level is very private. Access the 7 Castles hike and climb a series of waterfalls from our back door--ask us for directions to get to the trail. Located just one mile from a big horn sheep refuge, wildlife outnumbers humans in this quiet little mountainside hamlet. Up valley you'll discover an endless outdoor playground, beginning with the shores of Ruedi Reservoir popular for boating, fishing, camping, paddle boarding, and picnicking on the scenic beaches. From there, continue on to Chapman Reservoir where motorized boats aren't allowed--ideal for kayaks and canoes. Easy access to White River National Forest and surrounding wilderness provides infinite possibilities for hiking, hunting, snow mobiling, cross country skiing and more. Discover Colorado's authentic side in Basalt, where the quaint downtown street is packed with shopping and dining that rivals what you might find in Aspen for a fraction of the price. From our location, you can have the best of both worlds with easy access to remote wilderness and all the amenities Basalt has to offer. Buses to Aspen run every 20 minutes from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. from downtown Basalt. Enjoy a true Colorado getaway with all the amenities of Aspen at a fraction of the price. Ask us about fishing guide services that can grant you access to the private waters of Seven Castles Bend, located right across the street. We are happy to provide any information or guidance you need to plan your stay. We look forward to having you at the Margo A-Frame! Ali & Ryan Margo A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW: We are in a rural location. There is no public transportation. We are five miles from town and the closest bus stop. We are 35 minutes from Aspen, 25 minutes from Snowmass, and 25 minutes from Carbondale and 35 minutes from Glenwood--a great central valley location in a gorgeous setting. Cell Phone Reception is Limited We live in a very remote area, between a steep mountain and red rock spires, so the cell phone reception isn't great. We typically get one bar and can send and receive texts, but calls get dropped. We do have high speed wireless internet, so you can stay connected. 4WD Recommended in Winter We live on a dirt road that can get tricky after winter snow storms and is not maintained by the city. Four wheel drive is a must to get up to our house which is at the top of a steep grade. In summer, any vehicle is fine. We have a lot of stairs The apartment is on the lower level. There are 16 steps to get to the main house and 10 more to get to the apartment. If you are traveling with elderly, disabled or otherwise physically challenged people, this might not be appropriate for you. We are close to a road. If you have a picture in your mind of a cabin in the middle of the woods, you should be aware we are close to Frying Pan Road and yes, you can hear cars driving by, especially in the summer on weekends when there is boater traffic up to Ruedi Reservoir and the windows are open. It is very quiet at night. If you are not someone who is super sensitive to that, we are in a very beautiful, rural location. We are across the street from the river, not on the river. While you can see and hear the river from the house, there is a road between us and it. You can find public access one mile in each direction and you may technically fish across the street, but only from the bank close to the road. You may not wade in as it's private property. For up to date fishing info, please contact Taylor Creek Fly shop in Basalt. PET FEE: $50 per dog We are dog friendly. We allow up to 2 dogs of any size. Children are fine, too :) But, after over ten years of hosting, we have realized a pet fee is necessary to cover the wear-and-tear and deeper cleaning required after dogs stay in the unit. We are kid friendly! We have a young son and welcome your kids. The apartment is a great option for families who want privacy and a place where their kids can be kids. We do have a Pack n Play in the unit for babies and toddlers. Guests are always welcome to knock on our door, text us or call us if they need anything at all. We are happy to accommodate you and appreciate the opportunity to address any issues or problems you might have during your stay (please don't wait to mention it in your review after you have gone--give us a chance to fix it when you are here). We also respect your privacy, so don't feel obligated--just know we are here if you need us. We live in a beautiful, rural area on a dirt road where the wildlife outnumber the people. It's a little busier in the summertime, when there are cyclists pedaling by, fisherman in the water across the street, and boat traffic heading up to Ruedi Reservoir, 9 miles up the street where you can go boating, paddle boarding, jet skiing, fishing, swimming, and more. The house is located close to Frying Pan Road, so you can hear cars driving by, but it's also across the street from the river, so you can hear that, too. It is very quiet at night. There is NO public transit within 5 miles of our house. A car is a must! Please note: 4WD is required in winter--our road is not maintained by the city. The apartment is on the lower level of our home. While it is very private and there is no door connecting the two units, the apartment is attached to our home and we do live above the apartment with our young son and you may be able to hear us moving about upstairs when we are home. That also means that after our kid goes to bed, we are very quiet in the evenings. This is not a party house--it's too far from everything to be able to drink and drive.
