The space Welcome to Hummingbird Cottage, a 1940’s vintage home nestled in the Highland Park neighborhood. Hummingbird Cottage has been nicknamed “the Grandparents House” with many of the original 1940’s features like hardwood floors, thick plaster walls, original wood kitchen cabinets and wood window frames, porcelain fixtures, and vintage furnishings, including an upright piano over 100 years old. While keeping its’ vintage charm, Hummingbird Cottage has modern amenities such as heating and air conditioning provided by a heat pump, excellent insulation, full size refrigerator and smooth top stove, WIFI, and Roku TV. Perfect for one or two adults, the house also has a fenced private front and back yard. Clean, cozy, comfortable, quiet, and convenient to downtown Seattle, the airport, freeways, White Center, West Seattle, and all the Northwest has to offer, Hummingbird Cottage is a great location for your business and vacation plans. The hummingbirds come with the house and have been residents since I moved into Hummingbird Cottage in 1983. You will see them every day, rain, snow, or sunshine. Hummingbird Cottage is a work in progress as I continue to improve and update – I married only recently and have moved with my husband nearby. You’ll also see me occasionally, cleaning and refilling their feeders or working in the garden. Guest access You will have the entire home for yourself (over 700 sq. feet), except the second small bedroom (door is closed). The house consists of a glassed in front porch, living room with dining room, full kitchen, full bath, bedroom with full size bed, dresser, desk, and closet. There is a washer and dryer in the garage (another work in progress) for guests to use. There is a table and chairs in the dining room, as well as a table in the kitchen. The front and back yards are fenced and quite private, and there is outdoor seating during the warmer, dryer months of the year. Please note there are several stairs from the street down to the yard, a step into the glassed in front porch, a step into the living room from the porch, and a step to the laundry area in the garage. Other things to note Highland Park is a sweet neighborhood with lots of tree lined sidewalks for walking or jogging, wonderful neighbors, several parks, and great access to downtown Seattle, West Seattle, White Center, and the airport and freeways. Easy walk to buses, shopping, bars and restaurants. The #131 bus (just around the corner) provides public transportation to downtown Seattle, where you can access light rail, other buses, ferries, cruise lines, and the train station. Uber, Lyft, and taxis are also available. It is very convenient to take the bus downtown, use Hop on-Hop off buses, and City Pass to see a lot of Seattle's Visitor sights. Downtown Seattle, the stadiums, the Convention Center, China Town, Pioneer Square, Pike Place Market, the aquarium, and other Seattle landmarks are easy to get to using the bus - no need to try and find and pay for parking! Sea-Tac Airport is about 15 minutes away by car, downtown Seattle is about 15 minutes away, QFC, Safeway, Post Office, Urgent Care, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Bartell drugs, gas stations and Target are about 5 minutes away.
