Other things to note Getting Here — Please Read Before You Arrive Our cabin sits at the top of a beautiful rural valley on a gravel road, and the driveway has a steep initial grade before leveling out after the first turn. The honest truth: about 90% of guests arrive with zero issues. The 10% who occasionally have difficulty usually share two things in common — arriving after dark (the valley is unlit and harder to judge) and driving heavily loaded front-wheel-drive vehicles that can lose traction on the grade. Vehicle guidance: You don't need AWD or 4WD in normal dry conditions, but it's recommended for peace of mind — especially if your vehicle is fully loaded. Low-clearance sedans, compact cars, and packed FWD minivans can struggle. Ideal vehicles are AWD, SUVs, and trucks. Tip: use your automatic transmission's low gear setting (typically labeled B, L, 1, or 2 — you rarely use them, but they're there for exactly this!) to maintain control on the grade. What helps most: Arrive during daylight on your first visit so you can see the road and judge the grade clearly If driving front-wheel drive (especially loaded), keep a steady speed and momentum — avoid stopping mid-hill If packed to capacity, consider making two lighter trips up the driveway Not confident about your vehicle? No problem — park at the base of the driveway (accessible in any vehicle) and walk the easy 50 yards up to the cabin. Just please be mindful not to block the road to our neighbor's driveway. Questions? Message us before your trip — we maintain the road regularly and know it well. We'll give you a straight answer for your specific vehicle and arrival time. We want your first moment here to be stepping onto the porch with a drink in hand, not a stressful arrival. For reference, we regularly drive an AWD Toyota Sienna, Subaru Legacy, and an F150 or GMC Sierra (most of the time in 2WD) up the drive with no issues. Your Privacy & Security: For the safety and security of our guests and property, an exterior security camera monitors the driveway and entry points. There are no cameras inside the home or in any private guest areas — your privacy indoors is completely protected. We take both your safety and your privacy seriously.
