Schantz Haus-Farm Stay -Apt
Once considered the grossdaudy or "grandfather" house this furnished apartment now offers private space for guests. The apartment is handicap accessible with a paved parking area and private entrance. Everything you need is conveniently located on one floor with additional space in a loft accessed by a set of spiral stairs. A large porch offers space to rest where you can watch the farm work around you. Enjoy a walk around the property to meet the animals and experience farm life. The space Schantz Haus is the homestead and burial place of Joseph Schantz, founder of Johnstown and remained in the John's family for six generations. The Hunsberger's purchased the farm and it continues to be a working family farm. We currently farm approximately 1600 acre of soybeans, corn, hay and wheat. We raise Black Angus beef, a few Gotland and Blue Face Leicester sheep and occasionally several 4H pigs. Depending on what's happening when your visit takes place we can offer time out in the field as we plant, harvest, etc.. Touring the farm or helping to feed sheep, look for eggs, etc. is also a possibility. We are close to Johnstown which shares it's rich history through the Johnstown Flood Museum and Johnstown Flood National Memorial along with many bike and hiking trails. We are approximately 30 miles from the Flight 93 Memorial The Quemahoning Dam offers a swimming area, kayaking and canoeing. We are also surrounded by the beautiful Laurel Highlands region with a variety of outdoor activities. Relax, learn and enjoy. Guest access Guests are welcome to walk the property. Children must be supervised.
