Catskill Retreat

A waterfall runs right beneath the footbridge deck outside the kitchen, and you'll hear it through most of the cottage — it's part of what makes this place feel like a real escape. You'll enjoy a stone fireplace for cool nights, a screened porch that's hard to leave once the frogs start up at night, and a canoe for days on the water. Somehow, even with a supermarket, restaurants, a bakery, and a weekly farmers market just a mile away, it still feels like you've gotten away from it all. The space The house is built into the hillside and reached by descending a flight of stairs from the parking area. The bridge deck just outside the kitchen spans the waterfall and has a bench overlooking the water. Cross the bridge to another staircase down to the grassy lawn by the water. A canoe and fishing gear are available for guests to use. The bedroom has a queen bed facing a large picture window. A loft, accessed through the bedroom by a steep staircase, has two twin mattresses on the floor. The living room sofa converts to a queen bed. The screened porch is a wonderful place for meals, reading, working, or lingering outside on summer evenings while listening to the frogs. Amenities include Wi-Fi, a television with Roku and Kanopy, a DVD player with a selection of DVDs, and a washer and dryer in the basement. The bathroom has a tub. There is no cable TV or air conditioning, though movable fans are provided. While the cottage has its comforts, it remains closely connected to its natural surroundings, so you may encounter insects or the occasional forest mouse. Guest access Guests have access to all parts of the house and grounds. Other things to note There are around 20 steps on the stairs leading from the parking area to the house. In winter, there may be snow on the steps, although we do our best to have it shoveled for your arrival. The loft has a steeply sloped ceiling with a maximum height of 6.5 feet (see photos). Access to the loft is via a staircase through the bedroom, making it best suited to families or close friends. Recent tree clearing on the far shore has opened a partial view of a road, with occasional distant traffic sound. Water levels at the property's edge can occasionally drop due to ongoing dam issues, though this is rare, and launching a canoe from the property is almost always possible.
