You won't find as unique a location as our ranch. We are an "in-holding" in the San Juan National Forest., i.e. we are 160 acres surrounded by the 2 million acre National Forest. The "Bunkhouse" is a three bedroom, two full bath house with a full working kitchen, a pot-bellied stove for heat in the cold months, and a large common area with a dining table for eight. Nicely appointed, you would NEVER expect that we were even there buried among the spectacular scenery. The bunkhouse is at 9400 feet elevation so breathe deeply when you're here. We are located near the top of a Colorado mountain adjacent to Jersey Jim Lookout Tower. Our nearest neighbor is ten (10) miles away. During the summer we often have a large elk herd in residence. If you like the outdoors you'll LOVE our location. It can't be beat. The ranch gets snowed in during the winter because of our elevation and our remoteness. Although we are considering opening up for snowmobilers in the winter for the time being our season is May to December. For both the Bunkhouse and our two (2) Yurts the minimum stay is 2 nights. You are ten miles inside the San Juan National Forest so no shopping or coffee houses are nearby. However, one of Colorado's best (and famously good) cafe is located in Mancos near where our road comes out into civilization. It's The Absolute Bakery and Cafe. Busloads of tourists come over to have breakfast there as does the Colorado Peak-to-Peak bike ride. In the winter, you will need to have, or rent, a snowmobile to guarantee getting in and out of the ranch. The ranch is a perfect place for snowmobilers and x-country . When the snow gets over 14-18" the Forest Service closes the gate on Forest Service Road 561 five (5) miles from us. You can normally park in the public parking lot just past Transfer Campground and continue on from there by snowmobile. If you don't have a snowmobile you can rent one from Doc's Outdoor Sports and Recreation in Dolores 882-2294. It is a short 20 minute ride in. The San Juan National Forest starts 5 miles outside of Mancos, Co on CR 42. The road inside the San Juan National Forest is paved for the first five miles and graded dirt road for the last five miles. YOU WILL NEED A SNOWMOBILE TO ACCESS THE RANCH IN THE WINTER. You do NOT need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get to the ranch in the summer. The total distance to the ranch is roughly 15 miles. It takes approximately 30 minutes to get to the ranch from Mancos. There is a period piece potbellied stove in the house that throws off a lot of heat. It is more than adequate to keep the Bunkhouse feeling snug and comfortable.
