AUTHENTIC TERLINGUA EXPERIENCE Stay in a restored historic miner's dwelling in the Ghostown, a short 8 miles from the National Park. Offers amazing views, easy access, all-weather road, full-kitchen, private courtyard, firepit, stargazing chairs, wifi, water, electricity & generator for occasional power outages. Short walk to restaurants, bars, coffee, gift shop & galleries - yet far enough away to provide a private space. Hosted by long-time locals who offer insights, not just a code to a door! The space NOTE: **This property is UNIQUE, please read the entire listing description, all HOUSE RULES and look at all the pictures to avoid any confusion later. **Priced for 4 (+$20 each extra guest) **Property is not suitable for toddlers (crawling or walking) or small children. Please read our explanation provided below. **Please honor our no pet request. We don't take this request lightly - please read our explanation provided below. **The nightly rate includes a flat $70 cleaning fee that pays our housekeepers a fair wage (not inflated) **Brewster County Hotel Tax - will appear as a Community Fee. **We live nearby, so please select the correct # of guests to avoid an awkward visit. Casa de Amigos (House of Friends) is not just a place to stay, it's part of local history. Conveniently located between Big Bend Nat'l Park (8 miles) & BB Ranch State Park (11 miles). Within walking distance of the Starlight Theatre Restaurant, the Best Coffee Shop, Rustic Iron BBQ & the Trading Company with its famous "Porch". She had been my home for 25+ years and offers the unique local lifestyle in the Historic Terlingua Ghostown with just enough upgrades for a more comfortable experience - including ac/heat & a backup generator for occasional power outages. Located on an all-weather dirt road - less than a quarter mile from pavement with on-site hosts. We offer WiFi, electricity & community water (tap water is fine to drink). The “master” is accessed with a custom built slightly angled ladder (pictured) with very nice window views of the Chisos Mountains. The 2nd bedroom is cozy with small windows (walk-in level). The 3rd bed is a futon in the living room (full-size). The private courtyard is the perfect space to sit back and relax with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and "TAKE IT ALL IN"...! It offers fantastic views for miles, has a fire pit, stargazing chairs and offers excellent sunrises & sunsets. It's also great for outdoor cooking & dining. The private bathhouse has a 4-season fully enclosed outdoor shower and a "blue sky" flush toilet. The shower still has that outdoor rustic charm with a window view of the distant mountains over a privacy wall; or you can simply pull a curtain closed if it makes you more comfortable. We provide large "bath sheets" (no robes). The "blue sky" potty is located in the roofless part of the bathhouse. You'll need to be prepared to take care of business quickly during inclement weather. That being said, our winters are generally mild and a quick trip is usually fairly tolerable. This is a feature that some love and others may not find suitable (pictured). There is a sink and mirror in the enclosed shower space for shaving/brushing teeth, but there are no plugs - so you'll need to go back to your room for a vanity area. The kitchen has a stove/oven, full size fridge, microwave, toaster, traditional drip coffee pot, crockpot, dishes, basic cooking necessities and a sink. There is also a gas grill in the courtyard (propane provided). Keeping in mind that there are several restaurants within walking distance for a cook-free vacation. If you have a group of more than 6 - please see our other listings: "Mamacita's Casita" has room for 2 & “Casa Quemada” has room for 4 more. If you enjoy pickleball - there is a community court within walking distance. Bring your own paddles or we have some available upon request. The Historic Terlingua Ghostown is the gateway to Big Bend and is a short 10 minute drive east to Big Bend Nat'l Park's west entrance for hiking, canoeing, exploring, photography, birding; and a 15 minute drive west to the Big Bend Ranch State Park for the best scenic drive along the river, more hiking, exploring and miles of mountain bike trails. We have made every effort to comply with the "Dark Sky" initiative and ask that all lights be turned down or turned-off when not in use. The community’s efforts in this manner will keep us one of the darkest skies in the U.S. and provide great stargazing from the courtyard and the recliner chairs in the fire pit area. Facing East, you'll also have fabulous views of the Chisos Mountains and a greater opportunity for terrific sunrises and sunsets. NOT SUITABLE FOR TODDLERS (crawling or walking) - Please understand that this property is unique. It does not have the usual amenities of normal households. The bath house is separate from the home. It's not far, but not recommended for small children at night. There is no bathtub. It is not child-proofed - no plugged wall sockets, latched cabinets, etc. There is a ladder to the loft. There is potential for all sorts of critters that small children don't know to be afraid of. If you insist on reserving our space, you are taking full responsibility for the safety of your children. Also note that the closest hospital is 85 miles away and not well liked by the locals. NO PETS, PLEASE - There are very few places where you can take a dog/pet once you get to Big Bend. They are not allowed on National Park trails and only allowed in a very limited area in the State Park, so they are often left behind - which is not allowed 🚫. This is also for their protection - there are free range neighborhood dogs and coyotes in the area that could be dangerous to dogs/pets and create a safety issue. We lost one to a coyote recently 😢..!! The closest vet is 85 miles away, closed on weekends and won't open for emergencies. ☝️Most importantly, our housekeeper is allergic and her health is a priority. We love dogs, but please consider our request before bringing one to Big Bend. "Hands down the BEST place to stay while exploring Big Bend! Being in the ghost town with the beautiful views, quiet atmosphere, private home with every amenity plus some provided a unique and wonderful experience for our family. This adorable casa was pristine clean, organized and comfortable for the duration of our stay. Proximity to the National and State parks was perfect for our day trips. Walking a path to the Starlight Theater was fun too! Local eats are within minutes, but we enjoyed cooking at the casa too! Such a beautiful slice of heaven that allowed us to enjoy and relax while on our Texan adventure. LaNetta and Jared are exceptional hosts!" -Joslyn, March 2025 "LaNetta & Jared are the consummate hosts. This one of a kind AirBnB exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The home is built from old mining ruins which gives it a lot of character, but also is super comfortable with all the modern conveniences. The one very unique aspect is the outside bathroom which we LOVED - not something you get to experience every day! Another highlight was the fantastic courtyard with fire pit and next level views, and the perfect viewing point for the stars. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to stay in Terlingua!!" -Justyn, June 2023 "This house was an absolute delight for our stay! Once you overcome the trepidation about an outdoor toilet and shower, it is actually really great!! They had just installed a toilet seat heater that came in handy even during a winter storm, and their enclosed and heated shower room was one of the best parts of the place! We enjoyed every below freezing night around their fire pit because the view and ambiance is worth it!
