Dear prospective guest, We own two historic and. beautiful homes in Wales, Wisconsin. One of the homes I raised my children in. We have warm homes and we are warm people. I am a Pastor and my wife is a teacher and we are now empty nesters and also manage these properties. We care about you having a great stay at our homes. Please read our reviews to see how much our guests have given positive testimony about their experience with us. Before we follow up with the description. Thank you for your patience in reading some important information. We are sorry to have to lead in with the following paragraph. Unfortunately, we have had some bad experiences with guests. We only want to rent to guests who will care for our home diligently and treat our neighbors very respectfully. We do not allow large parties. Non-overnight guests may be allowed with written permission from us ahead of time but not in large quantities. We certainly do not allow college age drinking parties. We also want our guests to be aware we have installed outdoor security cameras. If you are good people who will care for our home you will absolutely love our homes and your experience. We really care about our guests having a good experience! Please read all the house rules prior to booking. Pets are $25 per pet, per night. We often work with you if there are multiple pets and multiple nights. (Dogs only) You are charged one simple fee of $25 with the initial reservation and then the other pet fees are handled after the fact through the Air BNB app and not your initial reservation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On to the history and then there is more information after the history. The History of James St formerly known as the Pedlar's Inn. In the early 1840’s Welsh immigrants Hugh and Elizabeth Elias arrived in Waukesha County. In the mid 1890’s, Willam H. Elias, son of Hugh and Elizabeth, built this estate, a 3358-square-foot Queen Anne Victorian. Elias served as the first village president of Wales when the village was incorporated in 1922. William and Mary Elias raised their daughter, Elizabeth, in the home. Elizabeth occupied the estate until it was purchased by the Webb Family in 1938. Restauranteur George Webb opened up his very first restaurant in this estate during the 1940’s. Only two things were served on the menu-chicken for $1.49 and baked ham for .99 cents. Webb then sold the house, moved to Milwaukee and opened a new restaurant there, starting the famous chain of George Webb restaurants located throughout the Milwaukee area. In the later period of the last century Dorothy and Jim Green owned the home and preserved the early Welsh history of it, especially that of the Elias family. In 2001, Dee and Richard Nierzwicki did a wonderful restoration of the property and turned it into the famously known, Pedlar’s Inn Bed and Breakfast. Dee’s touches are prominently felt throughout the home. You will see a 4% management fee associated with this booking. It should be noted that this is a historic maintenance fee. Our historic homes do require extra care and this fee helps us keep them in quality condition for our guests. Your booking is helping preserve these homes and allow them to be enjoyed for generations to come. Bed Infomation For a summary of beds there are 2 King beds, 5 queen beds and 4 twins and one quality sofa where the side rolls out and expands then into a single bed. That’s 12 beds total and if all queens and kings had two people in them there would be room for 19 in beds. Of these beds there are 2 queens, 3 twins and the sofa bed in the partially finished lower level. All of the rest of the beds are on the second and third floors. (2 kings, 1 twin, and 3 queens on those upper two floors) Keep in mind one of the twin beds rolls out from under the kind bed in the 3rd floor penthouse suite. Besides the historic and charming interior and exterior you're going to love the location and setting. The lawn is large and great for yard games, there is a nice patio with gas fire table and then and adjacent wood fire pit area. The home is in the quaint village of Wales. The famous Mama D's coffee shop is only a 1 block walk away. In addition the home is I block away from a paved bike and walking trail that goes from Waukesha to Madison. Ask Jay about hiking trails! There are many trail systems nearby. One that is beautiful and close where you don’t need a permit is Retzer Nature Center. Other State Park trail systems nearby include Lapham Peak and the Scuppernong Trails. Both of those are beautiful! Lapham is more popular and closer (10 min) Scuppernong is about 15 minutes away and more remote with much less people. Lapham you will have to pay parking and if there is snow the trails are for cross country only. It does have a tower to check out with views of the nearby lakes. Scuppernong is always open to hiking and to park in the lot you need to pay but you can park for free on the road, Hwy ZZ, and that’s free. Please feel free to ask questions. There are several other areas to check out. Some of those include Paradise Springs and the Ice Age Trail. The Ice Age trail is not a loop trail. Please do not enter the barn on property. That is closed to guests. If you have an even larger group you could consider renting this and our equally amazing historic home just one mile down the road. Make sure to book these listings early. They book every weekend and nearly every day in the summer. We live nearby and are active Air BNB hosts with another historic home very nearby. This means we are in the area all the time and we are personally engaged in actively managing our properties and our guests positive experience. There is a large grocery store less than a mile away. Many restaurants in Wales and even more 3-4 miles away in Delafield. This property is right next to the Glacial Drumlin Paved biking, hiking and skating trail. Hiking trails are nearby and our area has great forested hiking. Retzer Nature Center, Lapham Peak and the Scuppernong Trails are all personal favorites. You will love Mama D's coffee shop that also serves food and wine only a few stone throws away.
